watching Jimmy and the giant supermarket and he made a sausage that lots of people liked until they found out it had heart and tongue in it.

So....... would using ingredients like this put you off buying a sausage?

Surely it is better to use as much of the animal as possibe?

Braised lambs heart is gorgeous, not a fan of tongue - but these ingredients seem ok compared to some you hear about going into sausages! Liver is lovely when cooked nicely and kidney's are not spurned when in a steak & kidney pudding! Z

Meat's meat as far as I am concerned. Most sausages are 80% sawdust anyway so more meat in them can only be better.

we have always eaten offal in our house. my dad is practically beggin our local farm shop to get some lambs tongues when they send their flock off to slughter but they reckon they cant get hold of them

Nearly every Sunday we'd have braised steak with a few hearts in there to slice - lovely cold on a sandwich the day after too. Z

Totally in agreement - I would only eat meat that looks like a clearly identifiable piece of meat eg chicken breast, beef or pork steak etc. Would not eat sausages for that reason either

I am happy to admit and say it is largely psychological but then so are many things in life. Guess I was brought up not to eat offal and stuff, hence my intense dislike for anything connected with it.

can you identify where in the cow a piece of steak came from (no smart arse butchers please!)

a heart, a kidney, a tongue, a liver are all fairly uniform in appearance from animal to animal and so are the ultimate in meat looking like meat

I think I can easily tell the difference from a piece of meat that is muscular ie steak from say a liver or heart or kidney. The reason I dont eat burgers and saussages is that I cant identifiy what is in them any longer...but hey horses for courses (not suggesting to serve horse meat lol)

Never use it for animal feed that just so wrong.

Most people are put off because they know what it is, but in blind taste test their view point might be different

Unfortunately I would fall into that category - I d rather become full blown vegetarian than eating offal, sausages, burgers and anything I cannot identify. I did admit it is psychological but the mere thought of eating it makes me feel sick...

I can't stand any offal,I have tried it when I was younger as if I did'nt eat what was cooked for tea I went hungry, but the thought of what it is along with the texture of some of it just made me spit it out and welcome being hungry

It depends how much you want to spend, i like my food, quality food, i dont settle for anything under 90% meat. SO i'd rather spend more on food and cut coast on something else, like condoms, damn!!! Less fucking that is?

i like offal, but am the only one i know that does

liver n onions with crispy bacon - yum

only stuff am not stuck on is tongue

that's cos when i was a kid, i witnessed mum open a tin of it and the tongue unravelled on the plate

so there was just a tongue covered in that salty jelly sat in the middle of the plate

cue hysterics and a lifelong hatred of the stuff

Well if you're gonna eat one part of the animal, don't see why you shouldn't eat another part. Only exception for me is tripe, that just looks so unappetising.

Having tried offal I never liked the taste. But I would try it again as tastes change as you get older. I don't mind the idea of it in a sausage, but I do tend to go for butchers own as they taste better.

Having watched the two episodes of this programme I think it shows Tesco to be money grabbing more than anything. They don't really care about animal welfare, and that is being highlighted.

Will certainly make me think twice about buying imported meat as they can keep animals in worse conditions.

I actually think Tesco have been shown in a very positive light most of the time. Just by allowing the programme, they have opened themselves up to accusations. The only negatives for me were that certain areas were made off limits for filming, by PR people. If anything, I think last nights show displayed how much we as consumers are to blame for poor animal welfare.
