Ham & cheese is the go to but I do love a cheese & pickle.

However, I do like a cheese, Philadelphia & Linghams's garlic & chilli sauce combo.

What's yours?

Got to be in a two sandwich toastie machine (none of your posh panini presses), but...

One side a mixture of a really sharp cheese, a mature cheddar or an aged, salty asiago with a little bit of mozzarella or gruyere for stringy ooze. Bit of grainy French mustard or a tiny bit of very garlicky pesto.

Other side a tablespoon of mincemeat for a warming spicy sweetness, but it has to be left to cool slightly or it'll burn your face off.

Corned beef & red onion, or

Mature cheddar with smooth Branston pickle

Both equally good but I'm a serious cheese fiend LOL. One food I could not live without.

A guy I knew once told me a story that put me off toasted sandwiches for quite a few years... He said he went on a date with a girl who must have had an infection as it was like pulling open a toasted cheese sandwich

Barf. Took me years before I could eat one again!

You're welcome

I was once working on a pathology contract. In November there is a national pathology week, and a lot of hospitals invite the public in to see what it's all about and that it's not just mortuary.

I trotted along to the nearest lab because I'm really nosy and wanted to see what equipment they were using.

I have a pretty strong stomach, but when we got to the histo lab and one of the technicians was slicing a fairly sizeable breast biopsy so fine pieces could be checked under a microscope, it looked for all the world like a piece of lunch tongue.

Looked over and one of the pensioners who'd come for a day out was happily tucking into a corned beef sandwich.
