I consider myself to be both. Its not unusual to have periods of not being in contact, I should phone people more but I'm always there if people need anything and they know they can rely on me.

Loyal to a fault.

Know when to listen and when to shut up.

Always there if needed, even if I am just silent in the background when you need to find it out for yourself but you need my strength.

Will hold your hair back if you have had too much to drink.

Will rescue you any time day or night.

And a whole host of other things that when being a friend should just come natural.

Yes. My friends are an extension of my family. I am ferociously loyal to those who have earned the right to call themselves my friend. In my time I've been locked up, stabbed, had my car take corners on 3 wheels, drawn blood and more for my friends.

One time I sat on the edge of a 15 storey building with my legs hanging over the edge for 2 hours because my friend was suicidal. He's fine now and we laugh about that moment. But at the time I shit enough bricks to build a new building.

So. There is a small elite group of people I call friend, and I'm proud of them all.

Associates. Or people I know that's a different thing. There are many of them

In answer to the question am I a good friend? Totally. Because my friends are good friends to me. In my world friend is a title that is earned not given.

If one of my friends need help I'll be there, so good on that front. Then I'm shit at keeping in touch with people and I reply to meesages in my head and then don't physically do it, so not so good there.

Not many people get past all of my defences to be in the inner circle that I would class as true friends - I have lots of acquaintances, but not many people that have earnt my full trust.

For those that do get there, I am the most loyal, generous, honest, thoughtful and protective friend, I'll do anything to help a friend in need or to make them feel better when they're having a bad time.

But, I'm also really crap at keeping in touch, I worry about them to the point I'm forever asking if they're okay, and I can be a proper diva at times.

So, I guess I'm a good friend and a bad friend all rolled into one

All I can say is that I try to be, try to do the best I possibly can for them, listen to them when they need an ear, leave them to themselves when they need to be, laugh with them and cry with them, and yes tell them when I think they're wrong as well as when they are right.

If that and more makes me a good friend then that's great but I'm not the one to make the judgement.

Yes i'm a good friend in real life. Can count the number of real friends on one hand, glad to have them in my life. I don't court drama and can't stand fake, superficial people so they don't even register as friends in the first place. The joy of getting older is not putting up with crap from people.

My close friends want me in their lives so I will take that as me being a good friend to them, we support each other no matter what the circumstances.

Acquaintances will always come and go, we may need each other to get through a small crisis but are happy to walk away afterwards. They enrich my life and provide the variety I like
