Somewhere In The Ether…

Now you’re talking!

Right, so many but my all time favourites would have to be Mozart’s Requiem and Bruckner’s Te Deum.

I love powerful choral works

You're right. I've lost count of the number of times I've heard On the Nature of Daylight in films and TV.

Many film scores are a back door into classical music.

Who can forget "Vide cor meum" by Patrick Cassidy from the film Hannibal?

I adore classical music, and have many favourites. I cannot remember them all, but:

For comfort & peace, Emperor, Bruch's violin concerto, or The Lark Ascending, The Swan.

For joy..choral, Jupiter, the Anvil Chorus, Spaniah guitar music.

For fun..John Williams movie soundtracks.

And for volume 11, blast it out loud, wow...it has to be Saint-Saëns' symphony #3 'Organ'

Agreed I'd put anything John Williams on par with older classical music.

Mussorgsky-Night on Bald Mountain

Bach- Toccata and fugue in D minor

Air on the G string

Paganini- Caprice 24

These are my favorites, although I am still quite ignorant about a lot of composers and their pieces. I also appreciate movie composers, like John Williams and Morricone (but, are they "classical"? Probably not)

Yes! Piano or string prices are best

Can just about play simple versions of pavane, can play swan lake, greensleeves, Clair Dr lune etc. Finger picking on guitar

I'm pants at remembering names, I just hit shuffle & listen most of the time. Mozart, Tchaikovsky & Vivaldi & Bach are a few I remember off the top of my head. (Big old ones really).

I do like Howard Shore & James Newman, they make the films for me.

I'm a keen Classical Music fan, with particular emphasis on Choral music.

In Classical terms, traditional composers range from J S Bach, Beethoven, Handel, Mozart & Vivaldi to list but a few. But I also like more modern composers; Philip Glass is a favourite.

Choral music wise, my tastes are eclectic, having performed around Europe with some Choirs.

But it's Church and Secular music from the 14th to 18th Centuries that I love best such as Byrd, Lassus, Tallis, Victoria, Sheppard, Mouton, and Clemens non Papa. I also am into Russian Orthodox Church Music in a big way.

Hahaha rolf . Had me worried as James Newman is a singer songwriter who this year represented the U.K. at the Eurovision Song Contest

hence my assumption you meant Thomas Newman, which you have confirmed is also wrong .

So James Howard - Hunger Games, The Fugitive, Pretty Woman

Rachmaninoff Concerto no. 2

I used to get a constant deluge of classical music from the room of my uni housemate. He had to put up with sounds of me shagging so only fair I guess.

Beat me to it! Rach concerto 2 gives me such emotions

Anything Chopin, Particularly the nocturnes and the Préludes. Some polonaises and waltzes.

Brahms has some great intermezzos (Op 119), and Beethoven piano sonatas are master pieces (pathetique, moonlight, tempest etc)

Yes, they're definitely my modern film soundtrack makers, the capture the emotion well.

Newman might have stuck in my head with news or something in the background & it's just transferred. Nightmare at time lol

Oooh so many!

Mozart's Lacrimosa is delish, most Saint Saëns, especially 'Organ 3', most Victoria and Tallis.

Finlandia, O Mio Babbino Caro, The Armed Man, Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet have been on in the office today. Currently in bed listening to O Magnum Mysterium by Lauridsen, the Stephen Layton recording. Pure bliss.

Wow! Thank you for the Lauridsen link. I've often heard the piece, but usually the name hasn't been pronounced clearly, if at all, by presenters.
