No, not a new link or 'how many marshmallows...'

A question for those in the know. The roof bars say max 50 kilos, the top box 75.

Eh? How does that work? What am I missing?

The top boxes are made for all kinds of cars, if it’s going on top of a Land Rover you can put 75kg in it and the stuff inside won’t fall out the bottom like a wet cardboard box.

The roof bars are rated by how stiff they are and how they’re fixed to the car. If it says 50kg, that’s all you can put on them.

I would also check your car's handbook, or online, as different cars will have different load-carrying specifications.

Also bear in mind that you need to include the weight of the roofbox, so, for instance, your bars are rated at 50kg. If your roofbox weighs 10kg, you will only be able to carry a 40kg load in it.

Manufacturers would always state the worst case scenario for safe working loads. Though I cant think of why you'd use only one of them I'm sure that's what the maximum load is indicating. 2 bars equalling 100kgs.

Possibly... although even if you get bars that look like a lorry chassis, you’re still limited by the strength of the car roof.

Check the maximum roof rack weight in your car’s handbook
