wonder if those peeps have refused the offer of an extra (or in employment law jargon; an unsual) bank holiday off work as it was granted by parliament to celebrate our monarchs reign??

Could be wrong but I think it's just one extra day for the Jubilee added on to the regular bank holiday....

Anyway back to the Op's question......I find that people rarely show the courage of their conviction, so given the option of working the Republicans would take the day off....and moan about the Queen in the comfort of their own armchair rather than while at work...

Tuesday's bank holiday is at employer's discretion, the Monday bank holiday being rolled over from it's usual spot the week before.

I wonder how many unscrupulous employers will not give their workforce the extra day off but claim for it anyway.

it any normal year it would have been last weekend.... but rather than in effect having two bank holiday weekends "back to back" they decided to delay the normal holiday weekend a week....

actually the funny thing is as a civil servant we actually get a days holiday for the queens birthday... so because of the bank holiday on monday and tuesday... we got that today!

so you had the funny scenario because it is a normal work day for everyone else.. of being in effect getting "double pay" for working today.....

If I was still employed (Which I'm not, I was made redundant yesterday and began self employment today) I'd have gotton the extra bank holiday but it would have come off my 20days holiday entitlement, so in essence parliment gave me nothing. All they did was dictate that I HAD to have this day off work on a given date. I wouldn't have had the choice to work as my employers would be closed down on that day

I also don't give a hoot either way for the Royal Family. I have no interest in them or their activites but I appreciate there are those who do to whom I wish a very happy and safe jubilee weekend.

no bank holiday here , working , but i doubt if the southern queen would have the time to ohone me up and ask if a fancy a day or 2 off so i could wave a bit of plastic flag as she shuffles about

I consider myself a republican. We have been given the days off and I will take them.

I see it as compensation for having to look at the the gormless old bat and her half witted interbred family on every form of media. An extra day off every 60 years is the least she can do

Isn't it a good measure of a society when it doesn't make a distinction between those who support the monarchy and those who don't yet everyone is being given Tuesday off regardless of whether they love our Queen or despise what she stands for. (yes I know some have to work but generally the public holiday offer is to all citizens of the UK).

To those who support Her Maj, enjoy your festivities whatever you're doing, and to those who don't, have a great day off anyway.

To be honest I will probably work around 10 hours on Wednesday and potentially a similar amount on Thursday to clear the backed up work that the double bank holiday brings so I'm not gaining much...

Whilst i would say i (Sara) am a Republican in that i see no need for the Monarchy in these modern times, i also think there are far more pressing concerns with which to be involved at the current time.

I don't get the Tuesday holiday so i'll be in work as usual and i can't say i'm particularly bothered about it. The Monarchy is irrelevant to my life.

My full working week is 33.45 hours. As I usually work a 45 hour week I'm off the whole of next week. Bank holiday, Queen's Jubilee, Queen"s birthday plus two flexi days...and I'm not a civil servant or local government employee.
