If you mean you have to decide between physically fighting someone I.e “ beat them up to show them a lesson” and calling the police to deal if they are harassing you etc then my suggestion is this.

One if it’s the first option I would suggest having a real honest talk with yourself in what does it achieve? It is blindingly obvious the mind you own is obscured by the Alpha male attitude and can only be compared to childlike school yard behaviour. Running around telling people I might fight someone is the attitude of a teenager , plus this really shouldn’t beed deciding.

If it’s a police matter then I suggest take it up as exactly that with the law on you’re side. One punch to hard and the victims dead, you’re behind bars for a very long time an over something trivial I imagine.

I think my answer is clear and any adult will apply the same logic.

A law expert and a man who has a deceased friend from such silly behaviour as fighting.

I have been known to rumble, and in the words of Gerry Cinnamon

"And I'm no' scared of dying,

I'll fight any man,

I might no' be the strongest,

But I'll do what I can"

Takes a lot to push me to that place, unless of course it's a fist flying at me and it's go time.

I was always one of those people where once it was over that was it, done. No repercussions, finished and final.

Now tho, well, I don't like to fight although there are a couple of people that I'll drop if I ever come face to face with, one of them being my own sister.

But nah, unless it's there and kicking off I'd not bother. Too much risk of weapons involved and shit getting out of control. I'd try to go the legal way about things as I've fuck all to hide from or get done for by the police myself.

Old me, fight, any situation, I would never involve the police. Raised in pubs by a family similar to gypsies (but not) it was the way things were.

Now? Police.

It is called growth. To handle things using your head rather than your emotions.

Although sometimes neither is needed and you can walk away, forget and sleep easy.

Police if at all possible.

I think now I would only ever fight if my life is in danger and I have no alternative.

I've only had a couple and I can look after myself but it's not an option I like to consider.

Fighting to show someone a lesson or for an other reason is pointless. However much you think you can beat the other person the outcome is too unpredictable.

Nearly always try and sort it out, if I can , it’s like with employment or business. Once you do things formally there’s usually no going back and the results are slow and painful. The exception is if others are at risk beyond my control or interest

I can stick up for myself no problemo BUT do i want to risk seriously hurting someone (by accident) and my kids being without me for however long i’m punished for?

Hubby is trained in self defence and de-escalation techniques so would always try to resolve things himself. A neighbour was playing loud music at 3 in the morning. Not wanting to "bother the police as they have more important things to do" he went to have a word. He was surrounded by four guys, but within ten minutes, had an apology and the music stopped. No punches were thrown and we've never had a problem again. You don't have to be violent to be tough, just clever

In your bed

A smart person would never be the first to jump to violence.

Sure if someone is coming at you or your family you do what you can as a last resort.

But if it is you being the aggressor as you can't handle a situation it means you need to work on your self control.

A fight is a random situation, one punch is enough to do serious damage that can be life changing. There is no way I'm stupid enough to casually invite

Loss of job

Time in jail for assault

Either taking a life or losing my own over some silly thing such as pride when in 100 years it will not matter a joy who said what to whom.

Also you may thing your bigger but nowadays things like this esculate, knifes, revenge attacks on other family members etc.

All that for the sake of pride or have a cool head and it wash off.

As I say if you are being attacked then yes you have to fight, but never throw the first punch.

I agree with this, it is childish behaviour but going to the police is a waste of time too. I believe if you can't stand up for yourself, walk away. People that are like that will always be fighting and never know peace. Leave them too it, life's too short to care about other people's pettiness.

I'm surprised to see a grown man ask this to be honest. It's something I'd expect from a teenager.

If someone goes for you then of course you're within your right to defend yourself.

Any other circumstances then no. Walk away. Be an adult.

And if it's that serious the police need to be involved then I'd advise phoning.

In cave behind a waterfall on a hill

It takes at least two to fight to create conflict to bring pain and hurt to others whether verbally of by throwing punches. The angry aggressive and noisy will always seek conflict to hurt and cause pain by imposing their negativity on others.

Go quietly amongst all the noise and confusion for the world is a beautiful place...

So after reading all the replies to your question OP. My conclusion is that the best thing you can do to comply with all the advice given is to report it to the police. Then let the court do their stuff. And when the dust has settled, keep yourself out of trouble and avoid risk of yourself killing someone, pay someone to fight him for you.

I've never rang the police before.

Not really much of a fighter but since i moved to manc nothing mad happens. I've got about 2 family members who are normal and a couple mates who no where i live so nothing mad really happens. A very determined yodel driver nearly got summert round his yed but other day but other than that its been chill.
