£50K redundancy - would you take it?

If your employer offered you £50K redundancy next week, would you take it? Or would you try and keep your job with them?

Considering the volatile job situation currently with so many people losing their jobs, and the unknowns of when jobs may be available in the next couple of years.

Wouldn’t take it, My job isn’t going anywhere and I get too much of a good deal out of my employment that £50k wouldn’t even make me consider leaving.

No. I’d be tempted but realistically £50k is not enough. Though it’s all relative on where you live in the country I guess. For me it’s less than my annual salary so not much of an incentive. £150k then we talking

As I own the company then that would be difficult but have been there previously and received a severance package from my old employer.

It was fair and enabled me to buy into the business that we now own outright.

I took 40k a couple of years ago in my early 50s

Best move i ever did.

I had confidence in my abilities, now run my own consultancy and turn over 100k +

I am quite specialised in what I do (I test government computer systems for security vulnerabilities and Disaster Recovery processes), love the challenges it brings.

Just dont blow the redundancy on material things.. reinvest in yourself and reap the rewards.

Or blow half on a new car and put the rest on Red at the Casino!

You are left with about £2600 a month after these deductions plus a company car

I'd take it in a heartbeat. It's 6 months money and I've been approached a couple of times during this month for new contracts. The reason I've not gone for it is because the current role is perm where the contracts are for 6 or 12 months, but if they offered to pay me off I would certainly go. It's a good enough buffer for me to take my time finding a new contract that's actually fun rather than just chasing cash.

I'm going to be offered something in the region of that amount and probably more if they do it as it has been done before but there is no way I'm going to take it, I'd be screwed if I did.

Hopefully it's not pushed onto me by compulsory redundancy either but if that the case then life will change in a big way, house gone, car gone and downsize everything.

Good luck to anyone else finding themselves in this position, it's not pleasant and I've been through this 5 times already with the same company over the years.

Seeing alot of mixed opinions and moreso people siding to not take it.

I must admit, i would 100% take it simply because for what i have gained in experience (as a manager) i simply earn less than i should, that 50k would be over 3 years worth of wages for me and would like to ideally find a new job anyway as the one (i feel). I'm currently stuck in, isn't beneficial for me x
