I am starting a new venture as the title above suggest. Now I have looked at some of the places and some have secluded places so naked sunbathing also what a bonus. Anyone else do open water wild swimming?

There are wild swimming groups, if you don't feel confident in the water initially. Alternatively, grab a cheap wetsuit and join some of the regular open water swim groups. Great activity and great for muscle tone!

I’ve heard Hampstead ponds are really good but been too chicken; I hear it’s freezing. But might start if they open over the summer

There's a place not too far from me that has open water swimming, and they're limiting the numbers of people there. But the cost of buying a wetsuit is putting me off.

You can pick up a swimming wetsuit for about £80 upwards but try before you buy ... look on wiggle or sportspursuit websites

Don’t think they are, you’re right on that one. I have a friend that goes religiously and she’s not been so I guessed they’re closed

We love it, it's part of our triathlon. Local lakes are just re opening and we managed 2 swims last week. Have another booked for Sunday. Water temperature around 18 degrees and feels lovely.

2XU will hire a wetsuit for a month so if you don't get on with it it's only £50. If you like it, you keep it and you've already paid £50 off it's cost.

Definitely try to find a group to swim with, maybe a local triathlon club.

However plenty of open water swim groups.

My advice

For a novice.

Never swim alone.

Stay close to the shore.

Swim parallel with rather than out and back.

VERY IMPORTANT

never swim in water you know nothing about research and find out if its suitable for swimming there can be lot's of unseen danger's.

Also bear in mind that a lake can be considerably colder than a river or the sea.

If sea or river swimming be aware of tide's and currents.

Try to swim with a group.

Get a swimming buoy to tow it's a great bit of kit and can help you be seen and act as a float should you get into trouble.

Always know your limits.

Respect the water.

But most importantly enjoy it.

I have swum countless miles in the sea and absolutely love it, in fact this weekend is going to be my first of the year,I usually start earlier but lockdown and all that.

Assuming I can still get my wetsuit on

We swim in Windermere, we went last week, now looking to buy an open water wetsuit when the shops open up so I can swim for longer as the waters a little chilly

Love it

Please please don’t do alone does take a bit if getting used to swimming in wetsuit

You can feel a bit restricted at first and the fact when u set off you are committed you can’t put your feet down and grab the side for a rest in the middle off lake

Tbh first time in open water is never your best swim

Once u get the hang of it amazing your in your own space no turning every 25m

A boat

I love it all year round. Wetsuit and buoy in the winter. Shorts or boxers in the summer. A can of Coke straight after to help kill all the bacteria.
