The one that pisses me off most is when I ‘phone a money-grabber and am forced to pay for listening to:

1. Recorded “information” that is of no interest to me at all

2. Answer questions in the prescribed format

3. Push number buttons on my phone

4. Listen to what the money-grabber thinks is music.

Eventually, I get to speak to an actual person, who is an employee of a totally different money-grabber, and lives in the Black Hole of Calcutta. This person is only allowed to read answers to questions from a computer screen in a form of bastard English.

Under no circumstances whatsoever am I allowed to speak to an employee of the money grabber whose number I ‘phoned.

In the bad old days, a switchboard operator picked up, asked me what I wanted, and then put me through to the employee who would help me.
