Why is it easier to find matches further away?

This came up on another thread where I asked the question and it would be interesting of hearing what you think the reasons might be? I think one could be population density.

I like to keep my fab life and personal life separate so meeting further away kills two birds with one stone. Oh and I’m not a fan of having strangers in my house
