It seems to me that lots of people are exhausted, feeling low or run-down.

So I have lots of fresh hugs, ready and waiting to give to anyone in need. It's ok to not be ok, and to reach out for a hug xxx

I'd really like a feel better spoon tbh.

The feel of my chest on their back, arm tucked under their breasts, the cold of their buttocks against my groin.

I saw my bestie in Tesco late this afternoon - we cried because we couldn’t hug like we normally would doesn’t seem as traumatic in FaceTime

As if supermarkets aren’t already a weekly traumatic experience these days.... I made the effort to self scan to cut out handling of my purchases by anyone other than me. When I went to pay an assist rescanned several items as a check .... totally defeating the object, no gloves, no hand sanitiser I was fuming and crying at that point!

Of course.

Human contact, especially the long hugs, release oxytocin, the 'feel good' hormone. But only if the hug is given with real feeling and care. I think that social distancing has really highlighted how important human touch is.

Me too. Not being able to hug my nearest & dearest is so hard. I’m really missing the contact and, like a lot of others, finding it even more difficult this week.

Sending you all warmest hugs x

When I can be sure I'm not a threat and am safe myself, I've got a lot of hugging to do. I might see if I can figure out how to give a good scalp massage, I miss those.

Contact, hugs and touch with our peers or intimate partners are, for most of us, essential for our mental health, well being and general functioning.

Our bio chemistry is designed so that even from being in the womb, we help to regulate each other with touch, sound, movement and exchange and response.

Our mood, instincts, parasympathetic nervous system, serotonin, oxytocin, dopamine levels and all rely on close human contact and in the flesh exchange ranging from smiles and conversation to touch.

It's so wrong that lots of us are without this during such a stressful time with many people facing huge challenges.

Our bodies and minds know it innately and it causes us to feel imbalance and confusion in our regulation systems.

I have found it jarring and challenging. Like a feeling of losing all my reference points at times!

My children give me hugs but the chemistry is different .. as a parent, I'm hard wired to be in the role of 'regulator', so it's not quite the same .. and this is the reason why lots of single parents quarantining with children are still suffering with lack of meaningful contact.

Oh for a beautiful regulating hug to sink into. I wonder when it will come.
