Shoes in the house rule

What are your house rules on wearing shoes?

Take them off at the front door? Or do you allow people to wear them down stairs?

Do you care?

I always take mine off when i enter someones house, I hate hearing 'you should have left them on'. No, you psychopath!

Downstairs is fine as no carpet anywhere at all. No shoes allowed upstairs in this house.

I don't have the nerve to ask someone to take their shoes off but always glad when they do. I always ask when I go into someone's house though.

In my house, downstairs is all hard floor and upstairs is really cheap carpet that needs replacing and we have a dog who puts his stinky toes all over the carpet so I don't care too much about shoes being left on as long as they aren't filthy.

I don't have a shoes off rule but usually take my own off.

PoF if you visit me you'll need to bring slippers my floors are really cold.

Leave shoes on in my house for your own foot safety!

Old wooden floors with nails and large staple things that jab you in the footsie.

Depends if you entertain a lot. I do. I have friends here a lot. When people go out their shoes are part of their outfit. If you have people over to socialise I personally don’t think it’s right to tell them to take their shoes off. If I went to a house party all dressed up I wouldn’t be happy to be told to take my shoes off.

Only person besides myself to have set foot inside is the gas man who never takes his shoes off and always wears great big boots. I guess I need more visitors when this kerfuffle dies down.

I always take mine off straight away, both at home and at other people's. I prefer people to take them off but as long as they stick to the hard floor I'm not overly fussed (not on the carpets though!).

Exceptions for if it's a gathering and people have dressed up, shoes can make the outfit!

depends on the weather for one ,,, have a lot of white / cream carpets in my home ,,, usually happy for people To leave them on if it's dry ,, ,, as for upstairs wearing of shoes , it's needed as the upstairs is the loft space In boarded

I grew up with various large dogs and access to the countryside. I thought it was mental when I discovered that people took their footwear off indoors.

Same with coffee tables. Completely pointless – anything on them will be swept off by a tail within seconds.

My old place was laminated so I use to let people wear wherever except the bedrooms.

But recently moved into a new build with nice plush carpets.

If I could get people to take em off outside the house I would, no way am I ruining brand new carpets...

My Own Little World

No shoes upstairs, but if people are just popping for 5 mins I don't make them take their shoes off.

Will be a different story once I finally get round to redecorating my living room and get new carpet. Then people will be lucky to walk in my living room at all, shoes or not!

Prefer to have them off. Never had to ask anyone for this. But if anyone asked I would ask them to take them off.

I can make exceptions for women wearing high heels though.

I always used to fimd it strange as a kid going round 'posh' friends houses and having to take shoes off at the door. We pretty much wore ours to bed at home

Im quite polite now though and always make moves to take them off unless I am told otherwise or can sense a cream carpet.

I wouldnt take your shoes off in my downstairs though, I have no carpet to worry about.

Normal life its shoes off as soon as I get in. Family and Close friends would always take their shoes off too.

If its lots of people coming over then its shoes on.

If I'm going to someone, then its shoes off.
