Quite possibly because how would you honestly know what it feels like when you're not touching it?

Anyone ever sneaked up on the rock?

If they did sneak up on a rock, it would get a fright and tense up anyway

That is very true.... What if you threw another rock at it? Does it just tense up at a human touch?

It's Newton's third law of motion.

When you push it, it pushes back, but if you're not pushing it then it has no force acting on it so therefore you can put your hand in it, but you can't because when you do, it pushes back.

Is the rock in a quantum state of non existence until it's observed though?

Does this apply to jelly as well, or are the properties of jelly governed by a different law?

Rocks are very soft , our hands are just much softer. When a rock touches another rock it would say it feels like playdough

Yes, it applies to everything.

So if you push on a wall with a force of 5N it has to push back with a force of 5N or you'd fall through it. But if you stop pushing it it has to stop pushing back otherwise it would move towards you!

Same with jelly, but wobblier! If you push with more force you'd poke it though!

Have you ever left play dough out over night?

Try touching them with a paintbrush. Or a posca type pen. I have a feeling that might relax them.
