Have you guys heard about Folding@home?

It's basically a program where you can lend out your computer power to help simulate protein folding.

This is handy for research into diseases, for example, like Alzheimers or the current c-word pandemic.

I've been folding for two weeks now, and it's nice to feel like I'm doing something, even if it's small

You can also read about the project your computer is working on, and get a visual display of the protein you're folding. It's cool stuff!

I run it on my "play computer" when working, and on my work computer when playing.

You can form teams as well!

Maybe we should make a fab team?

If you want to join my existing team, the number is 264484. Or you can form your own, or join any team, or just go teamless!

This sounds like an ad, sorry about that. I just wanted to inform you about this thing

I have done something similar with Vodfone. They were using the phones processing capacity when it is at standby at night. Cant remember the research.

.

Yeah, I've been using it for a long time. It's sat on various work and personal PC's over the years working away on problems when I haven't needed the capacity.

Glad others are doing it too!

I used to run this on my PS3 as it was on there pre-loaded. It's for a very good cause and an effortless way to help out by using the processing power while it's sitting there idle.
