That Isn't necessarily about being true to yourself or not.

I want to quit my job and go travelling around the world but that's not practical right now, but just because I don't do what I want doesn't mean I'm not true to myself.

I believe I am true to myself. I'd describe myself as an Ethical Hedonist so not as selfish as a pure Hedonist and I'd never force or coerce anyone to do anything they didn't want to do. I believe in giving as much pleasure as receiving it. And I will always help a fellow human before I'd hurt them.

Not always. Sometimes I know I justify things to myself that I really shouldn't. Also I will occasionally do things I normally wouldn't for the sake of harmony. But if I know I'm doing that and it's part of who I am does that make me true to myself anyway?

No. I should be swimming around the Pacific living my best mermaid life.

On land, I struggle a bit with other people’s expectations of me. I feel that sometimes people set the bar too high for me and when I do achieve something they tell me a job well done, but I never feel like I earn it.

I think people also expect me to do everything with a smile on my face all the time and be a ray of sunshine when some days I’m more of a rain cloud but then I feel like I’m letting people down when I feel like that.

But her responsibility to her child overwhelms it I'd say.

I did a job a hated for years until the kids were old enough for me to change.

Sometimes you can't be totally true to yourself because of responsibility be it kids, Bill's to pay, older family to care for.

Sometimes lifes practicalities can get in the way of being 100% true to yourself. In this case the single Mum has to be realistic and put her children and her own welfare first before her own dreams.

I think there are varying ways of being true to yourself.

To start, sticking to your principles, morals and beliefs. You may be flexible with them at times if you feel it's justified/for greater good/ are making a conscious decision to do so rather than spouting one thing and then thinking it doesn't apply to you. "Do as I say not as I do" kinda people (the mother was one of those lead by example woman!)

There is a tendency tho if you do have a flexible moment, it will run a limited course as your inner voice and instinct will tell you "it's not you" and normal service will resume.

Being honest with yourself. Listening to your inner monologue (as long as it's the nice cherub sitting on your shoulder and not the one with horns)

I also think being true to yourself can take on another phase. I think it's also about giving yourselves the best chance to be good humans.

We all have baggage, we have all been shaped by nature and the most damaging one, nurture. Experiences have made us the way we are.

I think being true to ourselves can also mean stripping that back. Yes we can use being cunted off as an excuse to act like a prick to everyone, but why should we? Aren't we doing ourselves and other people a disservice? Yes we've learned things the hard way, and no, some people absolutely shouldn't be maybe forgiven or given second chances in our lives, but for me, being true to myself means dealing with those things, those feelings, those fears and anxieties and working on becoming less of a headfuck over them. I owe that to me. I came into this world a beautiful soul and I intend on leaving it a beautiful soul.

I can be a fucking bitch, I know I can, and in some circumstances I make no apology for it right now, but eventually with the self esteem to truly believe those who have wronged me without taking responsibility for their actions coz they're grade A cunts will get their visit from the karma bus or I dunno, fuck off and die somewhere and their oxygen theft will no longer haunt me, I can find that part of my true self that is peace.

I believe mentally we all like to think that we are being true to ourselves but in reality that's most often than not a lie.

Whether it be pushing aside our wants for practicalitys sake, or caving into our desires to block out the dullness of reality.

It's a very open ended question one which can be left open to interpretation; plus the majority of us tend to hide behind our own virtual mask or party personas when it comes to meeting.

As much as a vast number of people strive to be honest with themselves we often tend to hide more from our own self than we do from others. Some of it is deliberate and some of it is habitual due to denial and fear.

I’m true to myself too. I can be a brat, quirky, fragile at times, but I’m also a Queen. I fight for what matters to me, and don’t seek to hurt others for my own self gratification, and if I can’t change something i acknowledge that fact- even if I don’t always accept what’s being offered, as the best option.
