I ask this because as from Wednesday I'm back at work

As Pooch has clung to me like Velcro for over a month hes probably got used to me being around 24/7 . Hes not going to be happy

I'm going to have this problem too. He's stuck to me like glue recently.

Can you get someone to take him out in the middle of the day?

Not at the moment , not till social restrictions are eased ( which I'm not saying they should btw ) x

Mine has never been happier being surrounded by family all of the time, not to mention the longer than normal walks each day

. I expect separation anxiety will be a factor when 'normal' resumes if it ever does!

What can you do to make him happier while you're not there? Things you can leave. An old shirt that smells like you?

I heard some advice about dogs with separation anxiety when their people go on holiday. Their main person sleeps wearing an old shirt for a week, and then the old shirt, reeking of Main Person, is left to remind the dog.

Not sure if they get depressed as such but I know they can't often feel ruff

Friend of mine in Norway grew her hair really long and sneaked her kitten into work under her hair (true story!)

My vet reccommended from the start of lockdown leaving our puppy in a room alone for a while during points of the day so he gets used to us not being around ALL the time. That might help get your pooch used to you going back to work if you do it regularly & perhaps build it up. 10 minutes intially, working up to a couple of hours.

Also try a command when you leave so he knows what’s happening...you can start that now..? And don’t make a fuss when you go...your anxiety will make him worse. If possible ignore, or very gentle contact for a bit before you go and when you get back. And distract when you go...get a good toy you can stuff with a few treats so he feels you leaving is a fun thing!! Good luck...

Since lockdown started I have only left my dog for short periods 30-60 mins but I left him alone today for most of the day and he was so chilled out and absolutely loved it! I don't think he missed me at all.

If your dog has ever shown signs of separation anxiety I'd start working on getting him used to you leaving the house now. If you can, add an extra 15-30 minutes onto your walks? And I've always found new toys and a few treats can help distract them when you're gone. Also, maybe create a safe place like a cosy crate?

Yep my mum used this with their nervy dog, I was initially cynical but it definitely worked.

You could tell when it ran out as he'd revert back to being nervous.

Have you thought if a bone,I know it sounds obvious but it works its comforting with a lot of dogs yu can get frozen raw beef ribs.
