Would things get better or worse if humans focused on what was going well rather than what’s going wrong?

In my opinion, better - negativity is such a draining emotion

Yes, much better I think.

I have some pasty’s in the oven.

I’m focused on those right now.

I feel good about my pasty’s

It would be a refreshing change. Nothing seems to sell better than misery though

Focusing on what's gone wrong doesn't have to be negative.

I always try to be positive but I'm a firm believer in learning from my mistakes. If I didn't take time to look at what went wrong I wouldn't develop as a person.

The same can be said for society as a whole. It's only by recognising what's gone wrong that solutions and improvements can be made.

Yes! I don't think there's anything wrong in taking time to learn from mistakes and trying to grow. As a whole, maybe focusing on the positive is a good thing. On the other hand, it's okay to not be okay.

Absolutely but I think there's a difference between focussing on what's gone wrong and learning from it and dealing with it positively and having a negative outlook and demeanour and assuming the worst all the time.

And I know for some that is a struggle, and count myself lucky that I am able to see the positives in most things, and when I do have periods of negativity, which we all do, that they're usually short-lived.

I also know it's not simply a case of just "being positive and things will be positive" for some, you have to *feel* positive to be positive and I honestly feel for those that struggle with that.

For me though as I said, I always look for the positives, even in adversity and it usually serves me well.

Manchester (she/her)

It needs to be both. I try to strive for self improvement, which skews me towards the negative, but it's exhilarating to break through.

Got to be better! I try to look for the positives. Doesn't have to be big things. Just the little every day things. Especially at the moment

The trouble is negative news/things tend to have a bigger impact than positive news/things so it sticks in our minds more - it's how we process them as individuals that is the key

When turkey twizzlers the most positive thing back in the day got banned, humanity just went downhill and everyone became negative.

I don't think we'll recover and be positive again unless they bring back turkey twizzlers

You cant sweep certain feelings and failing under the carpet. So yes the scales should tip to positivity, but every emotion deserves time to process.

Give me a reason.. x

South

To my mind, you can’t bury your head in the sand and just focus on the good things. That’s basically just ignoring a problem if you know there is a problem.

To fix a problem you have to address it, or the problem could get worse, making it nigh on impossible to ever bury your head in the sand about anything, ever again.
