Dubai & Nottingham

My youngest is picking home deliveries for a supermarket, she was telling me some orders are now just alcohol no food and one she picked was simply 1 of every IPA and pale ale they sell, 26 bottles. Great idea!

Have you tried anything new during lockdown and been impressed ?

We’ve been drinking Villa Vincini 2016 Shiraz, £7.50 to £6 at Asda, really good, got that almost smoky texture you get with expensive wines.

Any single malt or rum drinkers found any bargains in the supermarkets ?

Got a Tamnavulin speyside, double cask, £13 off in Asda but I’m not that impressed might have to save it for cooking

Not while on lockdown but I had gin for the first time just before Xmas. Its OK... but much better with lemonade than tonic.

I went to the Gin and Rum Festival in Harrogate last year. I tried a rum that was gorgeous. I’m kicking myself I never bought a bottle.

There are some great rums around now, even Asda has Mt Gay Barbados rum. It’s the next gin...

What do you recommend as a mixer?

I make rhubarb and custard vodka.

When the bottle of vodka is 80% full, drop a packet of rhubarb and custard boiled sweets in it and leave for a few weeks. Very nice.

Also Mars bar vodka is very nice too. Although if it gets too cold it separates out; vigorous shaking and leaving in a warm place helps keep it mixed up.
