Anyone else noticed how sensitive people are on Fab? Almost entitled! I made a little joke to someone I’ve been chatting to for a while and it was completely taken the wrong way!

If people can’t accept me for who and what I am they can take a running jump!

It's like life, you meet some you click with and you meet some you dont. If I dont feel a vibe and the chat stops and starts and we arent on the same wavelength and they dont get my SOH and vice versa then we likely won't get on if we meet.

I think you get all sorts on here OP - those who can take a joke and a tease and those who are a little more sensitive too, it's just a reflection of life outside these four walls.

Of course it doesn't help that things can get lost in translation in a text format either, we've all had those moments where we read something one way to only later realise it was meant another.

A thick skin is required at times though, especially around the forums

A little joke or comment that we mean no harm by might trigger something that has been an issue for the person in the past.

If that happens then it doesn't mean we are bad people. It's just good to have a little patience and not immediately condemn people as 'too sensitive'.

Depends what the joke is. Rather than get angry and bitter that someone doesn’t find me funny I’ll take it on the chin and accept I went too far. It’s not up to me to decide what others should and shouldn’t find funny.

However, if I do accidentally upset someone and apologise and it’s not accepted, then there’s not much more I can do.

I tend to use the forums on something I feel I can contribute or get a better understanding of something I don’t know too much or nothing about.A few times I have been shot down so I tend to stop replying and quote.I don’t believe I am sensitive I have received some messages from forum user asking for more details about certain subjects.Hindsight is a great thing and if I feel I have said something that maybe wrong I send a message to that person as well as apologise on the forums.

Very much. I think most people are sensitive and liable to emotional reactivity, it's just that some parties are more prone to being labelled as such. It very much cuts both ways.

Humour always runs the risk of offending, otherwise it wouldn't be humour. People have varied tastes in what they find funny, though i've found people who are very sensitive and / or have been through trauma have a narrower interpretation of what they call funny.

If you've spoken to someone for a while and they know and appreciate your humour, if you've offended them somehow it's only fair they tell you....after all, you're just engaging in something they've not had issue with before.

If both people are sensible an apology would be readily accepted and both carry on.

We don’t always know what might be a sensitivity for another person. As P said above we can’t dictate what is important to another person and generally we feel that emotional response over things that are deeply important to us. Current conditions are also more of a struggle for some than others too. Mutual apologies and forgiveness go a long way to healing wounds.

Extremely sensitive over the smallest things and I’ve seen threads turn into unnecessary bun fights (as did Lorna’s - she didn’t deserve that)

People get so offended and so easily these days. Do these care bears not realise that when you get offended, nothing actually happens to you or in general. Society has gone wet behind the ears massivepy for me.

I had a very similar conversation with a friend the other day...there are a lot of people that act like nobody is allowed to have an opinion on anything if it differs from their own. Yes, we all have different things that strike a chord with us, but we all need to understand that people can and do feel and think differently about things, and not be "offended" just because of someone's belief, even if you don't agree with it. That's life, we're all unique, and I for one think it would be pretty bloody boring if we were all the same.

I think some people mistake calls for accountability as sensitivity or being offended (for the sake of it). Communication goes both ways. Might the person have a point? Might you have work to do on yourself? Is there a way to express yourself that might be more productive?

Lashing out just pisses everyone off. Occasionally opponents have points worth considering. Writing them off as fragile solves nothing.
