Tomorrow there'll be threads thanking the French for Brie, Baguettes & Stripey Jumpers, the Belgians for Hoegaarden, Hercule Poirot & Belgian Chocolate and the Dutch for 2 Unlimited, Clogs & Edam.

Is EVERYTHING an englishman achieves worthy of dismissal?

How about victories in sport?

1966 a World Cup victory that bought pleasure to a nation.

I saw a Bobby Charlton interview where he mentioned the celebration bus passing through Notting Hill and people of all colours hanging out the windows and cheering for them. I bet you some of them were not even born here but they shared the joy of their adopted land.

I think it's time that those who have been around longer find things to be proud of...and they are out there!

Rubbish , absolute rubbish.

As much as I bash our education system, it could be so much better, it’s the best in the world and a model that many countries aspire to.

Same with the NHS, has its flaws, got too big etc but unlike anything elsewhere.

Not directly English , but the British Empire. Responsible for so much progress and development - millions and millions of lives are now better because of it.

That’s just 3 of the top of my head. Stop whining and accept we are great , but could sill do better.

I think the English have lots to be proud of.. I like the English mostly. Great scientists like Sir Issac Newton who invented gravity, Great farmers, Bridge Builders and Sea farers. Their cuisine is underated. And Cricket was a gift to the world. Apart from a few hooligan types who mainly follow the football they are warm generous people in the main.

The one thing I don't get about you English is this guilt over the British Empire and slavery thing.

It's people trying to be woke and trendy in my opinion. If you are ashamed to be English then move over the English borders of Offa's Dyke and Hadrian's wall and live with the Welsh and Scotch
