all loved up

What are your plans If any...

Our road has a street party ( all in our own front gardens) but have decorated all the street...

We are doing a proper old style picnic with music etc...

We wont let the covid situation spoil our day

Not really. It seems kind of pointless to me.

That sounds a great idea. The weather forecast is good so enjoy! I’m planning an all day bike ride.

I’ll just quietly think of my Grampy. No party plans here.

I was planning to visit my Uncles grave in Boulogne.

He was shot down coming back from a bombing mission towards the end of the war. Bailed out but broke his leg on landing. Was recovering in a hospital and the Canadians came through and liberated the town. Days later the Americans bombed the hospital and he was killed. I never knew my grandfather but my dad said he was never the same man after the news and died just a few years later.

I’m actually upset typing this. Must get out there when this current crisis eases.

There were some activities arranged in the village but obviously they are cancelled. I have some colourful bunting to put up on the front of the house and will probably have the radio on to join the silence and the singing. We will do activities at work with the children too.

I think it's important to mark the day somehow. Plus i will think of my grandparents and family

Chams or Socials

Hopefully some kind of street party & an online family celebration for my step-dad who’s on his way home from the Falklands after installing emergency oxygen supplies in a field hospital

Sorry to hear that......I have a similar story of a relative who was on his way home from WW2, my mum’s young Uncle, he lied about his age to get into the army. He was on the train with his comrades and went to check on his injured comrades in the last train compartment, he stepped over the threshold and it came away and they were all killed in that compartment. My mum always thought it was sabotaged. He is buried in Poland in the war cemetery and his name is on the town cenotaph. I place a poppy there for him each year as my mum is no longer here to do that.

I know normally veterans and relatives etc have services and such.

Never really remember street parties and that but I suppose it's a big anniversary and what with everything going on?

They had street parties 75 years ago at the time, my mum told me, so the idea is to replicate that and also to remember the occasion. People think it’s a long time ago why remember but there is every need to.

Incredible. And well done for remembering with the poppy.
