dont do it, unless you are really sure on the design .. that is my advice. Go visit a tattoo artist and make sure they are professional and discuss any concerns you have.

In all seriousness though, there’s a lot of tattooist out there, there’s a lot less tattoo artists......

You pay for what you get

Have a look a various styles that you like and then set about finding an artist.

Oh and pay good money for a good tattoo artist and be prepared to wait to get them. Any decent tattoo artist will have a waiting list. Its money well spent.

If you want to change a tattoo idea, any good artist will add their own spin to it. If you meet them and you dont gel or they dont get you.....walk away. I get on great with my tattoo artist. She gets me and what I want. Its KEY to it tbh xx

As others have said, do your research. Look them up on Facebook, read all their reviews, find out how long they have been going. Look at their designs.

A good tattoo isnt cheap, a cheap tattoo isnt good.

Don’t book too long a session .... if you are having a big piece then do it in stages

4 hours and that’s my lot otherwise I get tattoo flu

I have found not picking my tattoo and just picking an artist that you trust and like the style of made it very easy to get it done. But much of what’s been said is correct, you absolutely get what you pay for.

Also do not use the numbing cream, the healing process is worse I think. The level of pain will depend on where you get it and how heavy handed the artist is, maybe worth getting In Touch with people who have already been tattooed by your intended artist.

Some artists use an anaesthetic on their wipe which are a lot better.

And buy a decent cream/tattoo goo for the healing, don’t use anything like sudocream or bepanthen

Research so you know where you want to go now, so you’re ready.

Then think...do you want something meaningful (in which case wait until the right design smacks you in the face and then just go for it) or just something purely to decorate your body (in which case just browse online).

And don’t go the week before or of your period...it’s more sensitive.

Oh, check out pinterest, loads of different tattoo designs on there. Mine are sketch tattoos. But there are loads of different styles. Pinterest will help you find some

Good tattoos/artists are busy and not cheap.

Research everything, what you want, where you want it, the studio/artist.

Be sure about what your getting inked! I have 3, 4th once this is over and they are all significant for me.

To be fair I love mine.. I have 3 at the moment and want more.. but some people really regret them. Mine don't babe meanings but I love black tattoos

Don’t believe anyone who tells you they don’t hurt. They’re lying.

Don’t just decide upon a tattoo - choose an artist. Each artist will have a different style and ability. Make sure your chosen artist’s style matches what you’re looking for. Ask other people about their tattoos, where they got them etc.

If it’s a large tattoo, take a drink and some sugary snacks. You’re effectively going to be sitting bleeding for a while, so make sure you keep your blood sugar levels up.

Be prepared to pay out a lot of money for a great tattoo. Expect to pay a deposit. Don’t go for flash art - that’s the stuff on the walls that you pick from and costs a tenner

Get something unique and meaningful to you - after all, do you really want the same shit as everyone else has??

Unless you’re fluent in Chinese - don’t get Chinese writing. Next time you go for a takeaway, do you really want them to read “butt slut” on your arm?

Tattoos hurt. Like a motherfucker depending where on your body you have them. The line work hurts way more than the filling in. I have two fairly big tattoos on my upper arms. Drawing the outline nearly brought me to tears. The colouring in and shading, however, I hardly noticed.

Watch the telly programs on tattoo cover ups. You need to see some really bad one. Then when you see what the cover-ups look like, you can see why they always get emotional afterwards.

Choose a place you don’t see all the time, if you enjoy having a year later move your way to visible if you like x xx

( you can’t see on my public profile but I have 11 tattoos and 3 of them quite big - getting them since I was 18yrs old)

What I've done, find a good artist. And then I've kind of followed their work. Plus they need to be good at the style you want, not just good in general.

Then the hard part. What to actually have done. I've got a few ideas but still not 100%.

Be careful, once you get one you normally want another. I plucked up the courage a couple of years ago and now have a fair few on my arms. I'm still wanting more......

But yeah think carefully of what you want as laser tattoo removal hurts worse than the initial getting a tattoo. Start with something and in an easy to hide place.

Anywhere where the skin is thin will hurt like hell!!!

I've got a sleeve in progress hardly any line work it's all shading with the chunky needles, I could sit there for hours on end, but line work 2 hours max and I've had enough of that
