Ok, so I'm home schooling at the moment due to the virus and my girl is ridiculously clever and doing special advanced maths classes and she's asked for help, but I'm shit at maths (brain not wired for it at all) and I can't do it.... :*(

Please can anybody help me?

The question:

There are a mixture of circles and squares in two colours, white and black.

The ratio of white to black shapes overall is 5:11

The ratio of white circles to white squares is 3:7

The ratio of black circles to black squares is 3:8

So what is the ratio of white circles to all shapes expressed as a fraction?

I'll pay you with affection and love forever if you can save me the shame. Please help? x

Nip

There are 150 white circles and 350 white squares and 300 black circles and 800 black squares

Do 150+350 450

- - - - = ----- = 9/32

500+1100 1600

Reply privatelyReply in forumReply +quote

Or 450/1600 =9/32

Best advice if you don’t understand, get your daughter to email the teacher ~ they’re explanation will be soooo much better and then they’ll also know how she’s progressing...

If my kids get really stuck on something I don't know, I tell them to leave it and let the teacher know they have no idea how to tackle it. They will learn better from a teacher than me.
