I found out recently that for the first 300000 years of human existence baldness was rarely experienced as the life expectancy was 23.5 years. So apparently the limbic system in the brain causes a minor amygdala hijack every time a human sees baldness. Obviously we have become more accustomed to it as life expectancy in the last 1000 years has increased dramatically compared to the previous 300 millennia give or take, and even more so in the last couple of 100 years. So frankly it’s quite surprising that so many say they don’t mind it.

On the whole I am guessing significantly more men and women prefer men with hair and most men who lose their hair didn’t like it initially even if they have embraced the baldness over time. I started losing my hair at the age of 17 and I hated it during my 20s and 30s, as I held onto the last vestiges. It was only in the last 5 years or so when I shaved it all off, I realised how much more I suit it than I did even when what was left was short. There’s a picture in my living room of me with shortish hair and bald on top and It looks dreadful. It aged me incredibly. I wish I had shaved it all off in my 20s.
