A relationship is all about equal measure of love and give and take, it's become harder to find as I've gotten older so I've given up looking. Or are you still open? x" I never say never, but it's been 20 years since I lived with someone and I've become extremely prickly and set in my ways, so it would be really tough for anyone who wanted more than sex and occasional dates. I also think that because he was the last in a series of abusers, with the abuse escalating each time, I would find it hard to trust myself and would be constantly questioning whether I was repeating the behaviour that put me into the situation where I would accept being treated poorly. Not sure if that makes any sense? I'm not accepting blame for what happened, but I do acknowledge that it was a cycle of behaviour that fed a need in me in the early stages. I'm not sure whether that need would still be there if I placed myself back in that situation again or if I'm in a healthier place now and could sustain a functional relationship. I'd hope the latter, but I suspect I would be constantly mistrusting my instincts and overthinking everything, at least at the beginning. Not much fun to be my partner when I'm working through that. I'm not that way with a FWB arrangement, even where that arrangement has been monogamous and long-lasting. It's easier for me to just enjoy without questioning too deeply. If you've lived a certain life then of course you fear it will happen again and that you can't trust your own judgement and so if you get close to anything similar it can become at worst a self fulfilling prophecy and and best very messy and argumentative.
