I’ve never been a big believer in luck. I think you make your own luck in life but -

Have you ever been lucky? What is the luckiest thing to have happened to you?

I'm very much a proponent of people making their own luck to a large extent.

The birth of my two wonderful, healthy children. They were both planned, but as to the rest luck or lack of can certainly play a big factor.

In 1996 I went after a job working in the finance team of a temp agency. The uniform was disgusting so I decided the job wasn't for me and thanked them for their time.

As I was leaving a call came in for someone to start the next day at an oil company. Right place, right time, gave me my start in the career I've pursued ever since.

Similar story years later, I had been trying to get in at a particular company for a while with no success. I had left a job that wasn't working for me rather than have my contract extended, and it was right at the moment my desired company was looking for an immediate start. Fortunate timing.

Luck isn't solely responsible for my success; I work hard and I'm talented. It has given me some breaks along the way though.

Hello lovely

One thing I count myself lucky for is finding out I was pregnant with my son.

We had been trying for our second baby for five months when hubby found out he had cancer.

Obviously we stopped and his treatment started.

Three weeks after his diagnosis I had a positive pregnancy test.

We were overjoyed. Definitely lucky

I won £500 at Ice Hockey on the 50/50 draw. I bought the tickets by chance as I got lost trying to find my seat. I was loudly bemoaning my luck as they read my ticket number out.

Also I once put 20 pence in a fruit machine to quietly fit in at a grotty working men’s club and it hit a £200 jackpot. I wasn’t very popular with the regs that day.

That’s about it. I’m due a big one.

I came to the conclusion early in life that luck wasn’t a concept I bought into. It’s one of the reasons I have never gambled, except when the lottery first came out. The novelty wore off and I knocked that on the head. having won a couple of raffles you could view that as luck but if you enter enough raffles for charitable causes eventually the odds are you will something. So the most interesting bit of luck if you could call it that as it was also about playing the odds with nothing to lose, was at a friend’s birthday party. They decided to hold a games night where the room was set up as a casino and everyone was dressed up in evening dress. So I donned my James Bond outfit, put on my best Sean Connery accent, ordered my Dry Martini shaken, not stirred and set about playing the odds on the Roulette wheel. Using a spread betting strategy I won a fortune in worthless plastic chips.

its a weakness to believe in luck. if you are prepared then luck never comes into it.

top boxers prepare, the military prepare, if you do not put the hours in, do not have the work ethic then you get nowhere and that's failure and relying on the element of chance.

Chance only favours the prepared mind.

so. no such thing as luck. its a fools wish

"there is no such thing as luck.

shallow people believe in luck.

real men believe in cause and effect.

Not sure I’d call them shallow. People believe in different things. I respect that. I’m not a big believer in much to be honest. I’m very much a pragmatist. Prove it to me and I may be interested, talk about it to me without proof and I won’t change my mind. However I will respect people’s beliefs etc.

its a weakness to believe in luck. if you are prepared then luck never comes into it.

top boxers prepare, the military prepare, if you do not put the hours in, do not have the work ethic then you get nowhere and that's failure and relying on the element of chance.

Chance only favours the prepared mind.

so. no such thing as luck. its a fools wish

"

What about winning the lottery though and the fact that chunky survived a 100 mph car crash?

"When it come to winning and competitions I have no luck. I’m lucky to be alive though after being hit by a car you had lucky escape hope you werent hurt

Unfortunately I was, i had to have surgery, a split second earlier it could have been a very different story

How old were you? Were you an adult? If so did it make you look at life differently?"

It was only 6 months ago so it’s still quite “raw” the aches remind me everyday. It’s made me feel differently when I’m out

"I’ve never been a big believer in luck. I think you make your own luck in life but -

Have you ever been lucky? What is the luckiest thing to have happened to you?

Hello lovely

One thing I count myself lucky for is finding out I was pregnant with my son.

We had been trying for our second baby for five months when hubby found out he had cancer.

Obviously we stopped and his treatment started.

Three weeks after his diagnosis I had a positive pregnancy test.

We were overjoyed. Definitely lucky

"

Aww that’s lovely

Bad luck - lost my dad, my business, my wife and my house all in one year

And whilst I had many years of hell.....

Good luck - reinvented myself with a new career , and now doing ok , built a new house ( through necessity, as didn’t have money) and my new business is going well and my kids are happy and fighting like f@@k through this lockdown ????

Wigan

I put two, what I thought was £1) chips down on red number 9 on a roulette wheel..

The bottom chip was in fact a £25 chip that had got mixed up in my £1 chips..

The ball landed on number 9
