Trusting verifications

Hi all,

Another boring question from us two, we should really know this by now from so long on the site but always better to ask I suppose.

How much can you trust certifications on here, I mean surely photo veris as they are checked by fab are good enough? And personal verifications on top mean they are most likely a legitimate person/couple? Not been stung to our knowledge yet but it makes you wonder if we have xx

Ive not spotted any obvious planted verifications. The more there are the more consistent they should be. But of course only the approved ones are shown. You dont know if there have been negative experiences not displayed.

Yeah I think the content of the veris can be taken with a sprinkle of salt really. The fact that someone has veris indicates that they are genuine.

Photo verifications can be faked. Single meet verifications and cam veris are meaningless. We know enough people on the scene so if we can't back track to at least one person either of us knows we assume they are fake until we meet in person.

You can definitely (in my opinion) spot when people have made two accounts to give themselves a veri. Often will be a guy making an a female account to give himself a veri.

I HAVE had a very bad experience once when I met someone who had no veris and was new to the site. Since then I don’t meet unless someone has veris. I know it doesn’t mean 100% safety but it’s what I trust from experience.

Photo veris have to be a face picture holding the fab logo with both hands or naked from the face down holding the logo with both hands, Proves you are real and your gender.

If they have verification's have a look at them and look at their ones as well, Its not a guarantee that they are real but it does go some way in helping you decide if they are real, If you are still concerned about people being fake maybe give a couple of clubs a visit and meet people there or try the chat rooms/cams

Pretty sure we've seen some dodgy veris.

A 'couple' messaged us for a chat. We asked for photos Inc one of them together, they gave us 2 separate photos. We checked their veri and the person giving it said they'd known the 'couple' for years. Went to that profile and it was hidden.

Asked the couple for a photo of them together again and their excuse was they didn't have any photos on their phone and they haven't seen the other half in weeks due to lockdown. Smelt fishy to us. Blocked.

Basically, see if you can trace the veris. If the account it came from is available that may be less dodgy. Not always.

We've only got one from a social, but pretty sure you can trace it.

This is pretty much what we have done so far, I think the one that has been most effective so far is asking for the photo together, it's kind of what lead us to making this post. We have asked a few verified couples for this after a few messages and most of them seem to find some sort of excuse which has lead us to think that maybe some of them are not who they say they are? Normally we wouldn't think much of it but from what people above are saying we need to be careful! Xx

I tend to read other verifications if I am interested, then sometimes follow those through to those people's verifications, that way you are checking out a virtual paper trail and if the original profile you are looking at is as genuine as it appears

I also read the veri content.

There are loads of couples who have been verified but when you read the veri it's "met the male half of this couple" multiple times with the female never mentioned in any of them, or if she is it's in veris that are years old which makes me think they've split up or only 1 is still on the scene

We’ve been criticised on the amount and type of veris we’ve had, we’ve been on fab for over 5 years and still people think we are making it up.

We’ve now hidden the majority of our veris

All of our veris are genuine

We just can’t win, now we just say, take us as you see us.

If you don’t like what you see, please move on

Verifications are only ever an indicator. Even if they appear to prove that someone's shown up to meets before, it doesn't follow that they'll show up to yours. In the good old days, turning on 'verified only' filters pretty much 90% guaranteed that someone would turn up. But now, the let-down rate isn't much better from members with meet verifications than it is from those without.

A big part of the problem is the number of fakes that are in the system. Not helped by the fact that you can still verify people by cam, and for a long time could even verify from a phone call.

Really, someone who'd been verified by phone/cam should never have appeared in the same category as those who'd met in person. Now we have a situation where someone who never meets has a phone/cam verification, and that allows them to fake a real life meet verification with a friend (or sock puppet account) and have the friend fake meet verify them back.

Being willing to speak on phone or cam is not the same as being willing to drag your arse off the sofa, get a shower, and either go out and meet someone or tidy your house to have someone round. And that's where I think the fantasy becomes too much like hard work, for a lot of them. They'd rather sit there in their underwear and get pervy with someone else than show up to the meet they arranged with you.

I'm more likely to take someone seriously if they have multiple published verifications. Most who are faking it don't seem to bother with more than 1 or 2. But ultimately, I only believe someone's going to turn up when I see them at the door.

Picture verification helps, shows that admin have seen the actual person and that their face pictures match, although not everyone who is picture verified has face pics on profile.

Verifications from other members is useful and in the vast majority of cases will denote a genuine user, but be cautious about profiles that have been here an age and their only verification is from someone who is also only verified by then or profile hidden etc. Doesn’t mean they aren’t genuine, fab does have things in place to prevent false verifications but like anything there will always be a work around.

Have a coffee only meet. Its easier to tell in person what somebody is like. You can also tell if their photos are recent or indeed even them

This is very true, and after the lockdown this is what we will rely upon, but until then without chatting via cam (which we find alot more uncomfortable than a face to face) I suppose we will just have to do our research and trust our gut as mentioned by the other helpful people above xx
