I can't believe that our society is still hung up on this class structure. I think it's barmy.

We're all human beings.

I'd say that this pandemic has proved that there are some jobs that are far more important than any of us had realised.

A great example is the story of the Janitor at the Cape Kennedy space centre.

There was a tour being given and this Janitor happened to be in the vicinity and one of the guests being shown around asked what he did, to which he replied that he put a man on the moon.

And he was right.

Because, if he hadn't done his job, it would have impacted on the whole facility.

middle class is nothing to do the your job or the money you earn it’s a state of mind. Middle class people are just middle class that’s the way it is. They are the type of people who share a micro bag of rice between two people lol. From my understanding middle class is defined by their income bracket and levels of low deprivation in a number of indicators.

I would do what it would take to survive and pay the bills, though realistically i'd never be out of a job in my line of work.

As far as I am concerned being professional has nothing to do with class, it is more to do with education and job type and the opportunities are there for anyone to gain higher education and job type.

Lawyers, doctors and nurses are all classed as professionals... However, in my eyes, if you are an expert in your field and carry out your job to the highest standard then that makes you professional...

Professional Hairdressers, they have trained to earn the right of the title of professional.

Electricians again a lot of training and I certainly wouldn't let a trainee mess around with my wiring.

Middle Class seems to be more and more a term used in a derogatory manner,as a form of reverse snobbery in my opinion.

Most "middle class" work, so are they not working class?

The class concept is rather old fashioned. You have poorly paid jobs and well paid jobs, and in reality most sensible people aspire to progress to better things? Should we feel animosity to those who earn more, and are more affluent when we probably want the same?

It's how people act when they're better off that's relevant? Mind you that applies to those without?

Profession and class don't necessarily correlate any longer. The national minimum wage, new industries, different ways of living, and decline of the "traditional" nuclear family unit have blurred the edges of the class system so that it is no longer defined by pay bracket. To me class nowadays is more of an attitude, personal bearing as it were, with a definite nod towards social etiquette.

The people I love/get on with are wonderful people who are bright, non judgmental, caring, friendly and fun. They’re also often intelligent people with open, inquiring minds.

There a few people on the forums who clearly think themselves superior to others because they have more money to enjoy the ‘finer things in life’ and like to mention it whenever possible. They clearly think themselves ‘classy’ - I think the opposite.

The wealthiest, nicest, most intelligent guy I know on fab is also quite possibly the most modest. He’s my hero - and I aspire to be more like him!

I hate the whole class system, no one is better than anyone else because of what you do for a living or the area you were born

You are all human beings at the end of the day and everyone deserves respect and to be treated without prejudice.

If I have to think about it, I still can’t decide what I would fall into. Currently unemployed after being in work for 33 years, 3 years in the service industry and then office based. Grandparents worked in factories and fields all their lives. Parents mixture of forces, retail and accounts.

Although I do see the class system in one family member, who should really remember where they came from and stop acting like they are better than the rest of the family

I guess I'm working class. I've worked all my life. But I don't own my own house or drive a flash car. I never went to uni or college I left school and went straight into work. And have worked since. I'll probably never be able to afford my own home but I also don't have any debts. I live within my means and am content. Yes there are times I'd love to have a nicer car or holidays abroad I haven't had one of those in 20 years. But I made big changes in the last year work wise. So you never know maybe next year I'll have that holiday.

But I was born what is considered to be working class and will probably die the same but at least I know I have work hard and anything I do buy I have earned.

I do think of someone is made redundant and has to do whatever job they need shouldn't make them drop down a class in society. They are doing what is necessary and anyhow I personally don't like the class system.I despise snobbery and people looking down at others. I judge people not by what they own or what they wear but how they treat other people. After all an asshole is an asshole doesn't matter if they wear prada or cheap jeans.

It tends to be the non professionals who look down on those who say they are professional on these kind of threads

For me there's just people...even growing up through 70s and 80s I never thought of classomething structure..we are who we are..simples and class or no, surely it's everyone's priority to earn their living whatever the work. That's my opinion mind.

Grew up working class. Have a profession that would now indicate I'm middle class.

However I still consider myself the same, and working class.

So I think it's more of how you or other people view you.
