Meaning in your life....

During this bizarre situation we have found ourselves in lately I have been thinking more....not sure yet if that's a good or bad thing....and reading more.

I've been reading and thinking about the meaning 'in' my life (not the meaning 'of' life) and something larger than myself that is important and to focus on.

For me this is my family and friends but that is always the case. But making more effort and opening up more. I have a negative side of not asking for help but being the one offering the help.

I have also decided im going to travel more and discover new cultures and experience some of the unusual places in the world. This will give my life a bit more meaning.

Has anyone else been thinking about this and if so what have you come up with?

Why does life need a meaning? Why cant we just exist?

Somewhere in Co. Down

I haven't really thought a lot about it.

Bar that you shouldn't take things for granted anymore and don't procrastinate go do the things you want to do and see the people and places and didn't get a chance to see before this lockdown came in force. And mostly I guess how much friends and family actually mean to me and how much I miss not being able to see them.

Yes same here. I've had a few friends loose people very close to them and not be able to see them. It's made me think how life can change in a matter of minutes.

Yes have been thinking about this.

I definitely want to do more for others. Also want to acquire experiences than material goods.

I love travelling too. Cruising is my thing for the past 5 years. I would recommend it. You can experience lots of new places and cultures in a short time.

Existing can be enough. Too many people are desperately chasing some dream of happiness that they can't ever achieve.

The joy of waking up in the morning might be enough for them.

That point is moot

I'd suggest I dont have or need meaning in my life

And seriously I think its rather fair to say I'm "living"

I completely understand why some need or want to attribute such concepts

However I live most wonderfully without thank you

Just to clarify

I'm referring to

Meaning or purpose as

"Why" questions

Where my existence exists I prefer "how"

I enjoy the sea mountains giving love and positivity

I do not see these as my meaning simply things I do as a function of existing

Exactly, and don't let others make you feel bad, for doing what makes YOU happy.

I just have had time to think about where I want my life to go after all this and I’ve decided that I want to do good in the world and right by other people, to improve their experiences. Then I’ll die happy

Life as no meaning we as human gives it meaning based on our bias and ego. Watch just how your political view shape your life that is survival kicking in. Life just exist, life does not care about happiness and fulfilment. All life form work on one major purpose survival which can be family, friend, clan, religion as long as they share similar belief etc.

That's how I will sum up life.

But there is a beauty to that, as YOU give life whatever meaning you value if that is companionship, friendship, love of cars, pet, human, chocolate lol etc. Essentially you sort of shape what life is to you once you get over the survival hurdle.

Yes it's the experiences over material things that I think gives more meaning to life...for me anyway. I love vibrancy and life in places aswel as the quiet hidden places it's all a variety of sights and sounds. Ive never been on a cruise but it is something I'd like to try.

Yes I absolutely agree and that's their meaning in life which isnt a bad or negative thing. To just get up and experience the moment is a goal in itself for many people.

I think at the moment many people are thinking more about the things that give their life meaning to them.

I think lots of people kinda go along with the societies expectations of how to live a good life. Only on reflection do we realise that actually that isn't fueling our own fires or passions.

For me yes my children give my life meaning as a mother, but mother is one of many hats I wear.

I've realised more and more that I don't conform to many stereotypes and only now do I feel OK about that.

Currently I'm longing for freedoms and adventures and I'm planning for them.

Yes that's the path I'm heading to. As women we are born and bred care givers and expected to conform to this stereotype. So after feeling like I've given my all to a now stroppy teenager some days I just want to pack a bag and head off into the sunset. And without feeling guilty about it!! So travel and adventure features high on my list of things that will give my life meaning.

I tend to agree

My meaning was to bring up my boys to be good men which I seem to have accomplished quite well

I’m not searching for other things to make me feel fulfilled as it were, I am happy existing as me

It's very interesting to hear so many people talk of how they fear returning to "normal".

I've never been bored, and always keep busy, but like a lot of people right now, I want to feel like I contribute not just take. Thankfully I'm still working, but I'm planning like crazy for things I intend to experience and explore.

"Why does life need a meaning? Why cant we just exist?"

The O.P. said meaning IN her life and stressed she wasn't talking about meaning OF life....

I took it to mean that she will value every moment and 'enrich' her life to make it more meaningful to her.

She can thank me later for 'telling people what she means'

Well yes that was what I meant. It's about finding something larger than the normal demands and stressors of life.

Good but incorrect as a generalisation

Some people need and want a greater meaning that's fantastic

Others their very existence is fantastic to them without the greater meaning

Agreed. After I lost my hubby I felt I just existed for years. Was just here for the children, not really living and it was bloody tough.

I try to enjoy things as much as possible nowadays as life is too short
