However, the "correct" pronunciation - if that means anything - is cleek.

No, I’m fairly certain it’ll be the same over there. It’s the French for latch, so everyone tends to mimic the pronunciation of its origin.

Most Americans I know say it as click. In fairness they do pronounce La Croix as lacroy, so I'm not so sure they consider etymology.

I just wanted to know if I was pronouncing it correctly, someone in our group chat mentioned a clicky clique, and it dawned on me that maybe, just maybe, I was saying it wrong for my whole 23 years

If it was pronounced ‘click’ it would be spelt that way.

‘Clique’ is from the French - to make a noise. This is old French, as ‘noisy’ is now ‘bruyant’.

The word should be ‘claque’ which means ‘a group of sycophantic followers’.

Seems about right to me with some on here.
