"Hi O.P. I am vegan. One thing I will warn you against is pre prepared vegan meals in supermarkets. Most of them are just fat , salt , sugar etc.... I use some of them but check out the nutrition first. Don't follow vegan fads or vegan faddy foods. Just remember that everything without meat, fish , eggs or dairy in is VEGAN. It's very easy. To make sure you get your protein quota eat lentils, beans etc..... I make my own seitan tho I get fed up making it and I do like some vegan sausage and soy mince. Don't make it a labour. Just eat tons of veg with some vegan proteins and carbs. Don't buy into the vegan meal shit. There....... that's it And don't buy a cook book .......fucks sake just leave the meat out ![]() This Cook your meals dont buy vegan prepped I use a great deal of pulses thus get into a soak and boil regime If you can, grow some herbs Variety I feel is vital mix your protein sources to build complete range of amnio acids Same with omega oils have a wide range of plant oils inc chia seeds pumpkin seeds and coconut oils Oh and mushrooms again a wide variety Oh and almonds If you make your own wine bread You can harvest the dead yeast very nutritious

Also two series of it on BBC IPlayer ![]() ![]() I’ve known Matt for years (was a skater as a kid) and he lost his way a little after Dirty Sanchez, but he became a triathlete, then Ironman and now a successful vegan chef. His recipes are really balanced and work well with a training regime

"Any diet that requires you to buy supplements isn't a good one! A managed diet should give you all the nutrients you need! We were never meant to be vegans! Your not going to save the world! Go out and buy some nice bacon!" How do you know we were never meant to be vegans?. It suits lots of people just fine. I don't understand why people are so preoccupied with vegan diets. Let me know when you have a perfect diet and are having every nutrient at the correct levels every day. Some people can't sit back and do nothing. If they know their diet is harming the environment then they will change themselves. I don't see the problem. Oh the classic bacon comment!!. Says a lot about your character.

"Any diet that requires you to buy supplements isn't a good one! A managed diet should give you all the nutrients you need! We were never meant to be vegans! Your not going to save the world! Go out and buy some nice bacon!" Not everyone who is vegan is attempting to save the planet. Each have their own reasons. I'd call my self a plant eater rather than a vegan. Your comment on supplements made me smile. The B12 you get from your meat is produced by cattle because they are FED a compound that makes them produce B12. Understand your own diet. For your own good.

"Thanks all. Im doing this as I have type 2 diabetes. Im not drastically overweight, im fit through gym, cycling and tabbing and neither smoke or drink alot. I dont want to end up like my father who is ill through heart disease and complications. My wife has also a history of illness in her family. Its a health reason for us. If you want to eat bacon thats down to you, personlly I dont care. Again, thanks for all your comments, feel free to PM with websites etc." Erm ok but be careful vegan is not specifically low glycemic ? Meat is good for a type 2 Eggs exceptional for type 2 Dark dark chocolate good Milk bad Rice is awful As is pure white bread Nuts amazing seeds fantastic Beans and fiber good Green generally good Red sauce brown sauce bad I generally eat a diabetic diet it absolutely includes eggs and lean meat If you are type two and want to stay off the drugs you MUST understand the GI and GL of carbs and how your insulin works I'd suggest IF youre not doing it for ethical or taste reasons then it's likely to be beneficial eating some animal products ![]()

His book 'how not to die' is awesome Hopefully there will be some tips in there for you. Good luck

The word vegan is used to describe an ethical standpoint on the exploitation of animals that goes beyond changing eating habits for health. If you aren’t interested in animal exploitation you’re just choosing a plant based diet ![]()

The only thing I take is b12

"Wrong im afraid. Like I say i exercise alot. 4 to 5 days a week, dont have sugar and look adter myself. Having seen numerous programs on this im hoping vegan will help. Cheese wise im fine, I hate the stuff" What do you mean You dont have sugar ? Do you mean you dont have what we term added granulated sugar Or you dont eat carbohydrates If you eat white bread or rice your low insulin will not be able to cope You need to analyse and be aware of all your carbohydrates and their impact upon your blood sugar levels ie their glycemic load For a diabetic cheese is vastly superior to bread rice Or potatoes

"Been diabetic for 13 years and more than capable of sorting my diet out. Veganism seems a logical step bearing in mind im 11st 8, can easily run 10 miles with a 35lb pack, mountainbikr and road ride all day and spend 3 hrs lifting wrights, i.e. im fit Diet as such is good, I know what to eat and avoid. "If people prefer to eat a vegan diet, that's their business. I wouldn't, myself, unless I had no other choice. I would definitely eat meat created in a lab/factory, if they ever got it cheap enough." What about insects or slugs ??
