Years ago a male friend said to me , about his wife, see her love her, don't see her don't love her.

I thought he was shallow but as i've aged i agree.

If I don't see someone for a while, the relationship isn't nurtured , doesn't grow and dies. What people hold on to are the memories not the person they think they still know.

There are exceptions.

If I'm very close to someone (e.g. family) then it's different, and if we're in touch but not meeting up with each other it's also different - you're still in each other's lives and still growing together.

Otherwise I agree - if I'm not in contact with someone then gradually the importance of the relationship will diminish. We will both move on and grow separately, and when we meet again we won't be meeting as intimates, a strangeness sets in.

You can't leave a field fallow and expect to reap a harvest. All relationships take work, but distant ones take more work in my experience.

Yes absence can and does make the heart grow fonder , but only if it was fond in the first place ..If its a take it or leave it situation then no there's nothing for it to hang on to and grow

And ive experienced that in the past ..

Right now though my heart is so fond im amazed at how strong it has grown
