Where do our personalities come from? How much of personality is genetic and how much is from the environment?

A mixture I think. We have an 'essence' which is intrinsic. As sentient beings we are influenced by our experiences and our behaviour and responses to situations will reflect this. Ego will protect us, save us, step in, get in the way. But ultimately, if you listen deeply..you will find your essence and your natural way of being..what nourishes you and how you are at default without the stories of how you are 'told' to be.

We're a never ending process of human condition. Constantly in flux. It's a good question OP. Keep asking over and over again..you'll find the answers and then more questions. Life ay!?

Do you want a specific ratio, OP?

I'd say about 15% genes and 85% environment based on all of two minutes thinking about it.

We are born with a personality but our formative years shape that personality. Between the ages of 5 and 13 our motivational values are formed and anchor our strengths. Our preferred ways of relating, the way we access information, make sense of the information and make our decisions are formed during this time. Our response to conflict situations and stress continues to be shaped based on our experiences but becomes increasingly predictable.

Personal transformations and significant crises in our lives can influence our personalities but big changes in personality are rare.

Imo, we’re products of our socialisation and our experiences.
