Howdy Everyone.
First time posting in the Lounge, and the below is a copy and paste from the Irish forum where I originally posted it. A kind user suggested I repost here! Hope you enjoy!
"Hello All,
I trust and hope everyone is doing well given the circumstances...
Seeing as many of us are stuck indoors for the majority of time I thought I'd take this opportunity to have a wee rambling rant about a subject that I find intensely interesting and that is very relevant to our sexual habits, it is, as the title indicates, The Evolutionary Psychology of Sex!
So; have you ever wondered why women can seemingly have sex for hours? Or why it is that males tend to get very "tender" and experience a rush of negativity post orgasm (there's actually a name for this experience, it's referred to as PCT or Post-Coital Tristesse, have a Google!) Or why they can't simply continue on fucking after they've cum? Why does it take men anywhere between 10 and 30 minutes to develop an erection or interest in sexual once they've ejaculated? Why do women remain in a state of excitement and 'receptive' even though the male is spent? Why can women remain in a state of excitement longer than the male?
Some of these questions have been addressed by evolutionary psychologists and I find their suggested answers fascinating.
If you'd like to know more please do read on!
To begin we need to look at what the sexual act is ultimately trying to achieve, and, in a strictly biological sense, sex is about reproduction.
We engage in sex to propagate our species. Male plus female, sperm plus egg, equals baby, a new member of our species.
We need a motivator to engage in this behavior so sex becomes something pleasurable, hopefully for both parties! Now if we strip away our society, our culture and our civilization and go back to what we essentially are, which is a large herd of very sneaky hairless apes, we can begin to look at our sexual behavior as a strictly biological phenomenon. Humans feel a desire to procreate.
Let's take a sample group from the herd; 3 males, 1 female. They are wandering around the wild plains of pre-history. There's all sorts of predators out there too. Sabretooth Kitties and the likes. The lady human is ovulating and thusly feels amorous.
She goes around doing Lady Hairless Ape flirty things, twerking or yoga or whatever. Our 3 males eventually notice Lady Human, catching her scent and becoming aroused. One of the braver (or dumber) males simply can't contain himself and rushes to mount our Lady Human. Let's pause there, and examine our scenario.
We are in pre-history. We have two baseline early humans keen to fuck on the plains of wild pre-historical plains, surrounded by larger animals who wish to eat them. Much like going to the bathroom, engaging in the penetrative sexual act will leave both our humans particularly vunerable to attack. And seeing as Cosmopolitan or John Holmes have yet to exist our Brave Early Male isn't all that concerned with staying power. In fact, biologically speaking, the most advantageous thing our Early Man could do would be to ejaculate as soon as he entered our Early Lady. His desire would be sated, his genetic material safely deposited and could head back to his mates and smoke a cigar or whatever.
Nature however, has other plans.
In most cases our Male would be required to engage in what we colloquially refer to as "fucking". He will be required to mount our receptive Female and "hump", that is to say, move his penis in and out of the Female's vagina in a see-sawing motion for approximately 10 minutes.
Lucky Lady.
But why?
If we accept our two earlier suppositions, that sex is about procreation and that in this pre-historic era such an act leaves our two humans particularly at risk to predators, why does Nature seek to draw the act out longer than it should be?
The answer dear friends, lies in the Early Human Males that are left behind to watch.
Let's recall that there was originally a group of three Males admiring our Female. We've already watched our Brave Male move to mount our Female. The other two are a little shyer, maybe a little less quick to *ahem* rise to the occasion...
However, as they watch our Brave Male have sex with our Female they become more and more excited themselves. They have also noticed that the Female is indeed receptive, she didn't bite or scratch or shriek at our Brave Male when he penetrated her. Our two left behind males become more and more aroused at the act being enjoyed in front of them. (not to get side tracked but this theory also explains our penchant for pornography).
So let us leave our Males here in a state of willing and eager arousal to return to our Fine Fucking Friends.
The Brave Male has done his duty, he has given it his all for 10 minutes (in reality maybe 6) and finally climaxes inside our Female.
Ah, such bliss.
But lo, what is this? Post orgasm our Brave Male doesn't feel so brave any more, his cock begins to wilt, he suddenly feels very vunerable, a bit down and kinda hungry. Why is he even bothering with this female?
Ugh.
He dismounts and wanders off, looking for some fruit. This is our aforementioned post-coital triesste. Why does this happen?
Surely Nature would encourage as much sex as possible to ensure our Female collects as much genetic material as possible? To guarantee insemination?
Enter Male 2.
Our Female is still aroused. Still naturally lubricated and is displaying an impressive wide-on. Our two spare males are fully erect from watching the previous Live Sex Show and have lost their reservations. Newly emboldened, Male 2 strides confidently forward and mounts our grateful Female.
Herein lies the crux of the argument.
Gentlemen. Take a moment and look at your penis. Have you ever wondered why it looks as it does? Why it is shaped as it is? The shaft is easily explainable from an engineering perspective, we need it to penetrate the vagina. But why the head? Why it it shaped kinda like a mushroom?
Lets go back to what sex is for. To procreate. Male 2 has watched our Brave Male enter and deposit his genetic material into our Female. Male 2, as a biological entity who's imperative is to ensure the survival of his own genes, feels hugely encouraged to deposit his own genetic material. Is it a case of may the best swimmers win?
Kinda.
See our female is geared, biologically and by evolution, to remain receptive to multiple partners. The more diverse the sampling of genetic material she collects the more chances she has of conceiving a child with preferable genes. She can't rely on our Brave Male to simply have the best, so she will collect samples from Brave Male, Male 2, and ultimately Male 3. Of the 3 males only one will impregnate her. So this is evolution down to it's essence. Samples from 3 males. One egg. May the best Hairless Ape win. Evolutionary reproduction via Thunderdome.
Three males in, One baby out.
But us sneaky males have an ace up our sleeve. Our weirdly shaped cocks. At this point I'd also like to remind you of our earlier problem, why does sex take so long (relatively speaking) when it should be in and out, done and dusted, to safe guard against predators?
The answer once again lies with our cocks. Our receptive Female is full of Brave Male's genetic material. Male 2 feels a desire to replace that with his own, well and good.
Depositing his own material will not be a problem. But how to ensure that his material will win out over Brave Male's?!
By doing what nature and biology compels him to do, by fucking, in and out.
In engaging in the act of fucking, in see-sawing in and out of our Female, he is uses the head of his mushroom shaped cock to scrape out or remove as much as is possible of our Brave Male's deposit, finally replacing it with his own!
This 10 minutes worth of frantic humping, in conjunction with the shape of a males penis, is designed by nature to enable males to attempt to remove any other males semen from a receptive female. This also explains why males suffer from a floppy cock, a distinct lack of interest in sexual matters and some negative emotions immediately after orgasm; if we were continue to fuck after orgasm we run the inherent risk of accidentally removing our own deposit. So we get the post-coital trissete, wander off or go to sleep, seemingly allowing our sperm to make the hazardous journey toward the egg. This also explains why watching other people fuck, or watching pornography excites us. We feel a compulsion to fuck as we perceive other males depositing their material and desire to replace it with our own. This of course goes a long way to explaining the frantic excitement of a sex club, a swingers party, cuckolding, HotWives, etc. - we see other males mating with our partners and seek to replace their material with our own (evolution didn't account for condoms or other forms of birth control - toldja we were sneaky).
Ask any swinger or anyone who engages in sharing or swapping and most will say there's nothing hotter than "reclaim sex". Nature wholeheartedly agrees with you and this is apparently why!
Now, I've been fairly male centric here and I must admit this may be a symptom of the patriarchy and for that I apologize but the sad fact is that quite a lot regarding female sexuality has still to be discovered. The female orgasm for instance has never been adequately explained. There are some theories (the rhythmic clenching of the vaginal walls helps push semen toward the egg etc.) but no one has come across a decisive theory. If we wanted to get into the psychology of HOW women supposedly choose their mates (contrary to the simplistic scenario I constructed above it is NOT as straight forward as Female presents vagina and welcomes all Males) we'd be here for hours and mired in controversy.
Female ejaculation is another mystery, in so far as no one can come up with a satisfactory evolutionary explain for it. (aside - it is most definitely not urine as some people claim, it does contain urea but that doesn't make it pee!).
The only thing most evolutionary psychologists seem to be able to agree upon is that women are geared toward sex with mutiple partners. They seek a carer male (one who hunts and can fight off aggressive males and dinosaurs and shit) but whilst searching for a Baby Daddy it makes sense for a female to have sex with as many males as she safely can. This provides the female with a broad diverse cross section of genetic material, ensuring then that she is fertilized with the strongest genes.
Anyone who has seen a liberated woman at a sex party or club can attest to women's frankly impressive capacity for engaging in sexual acts with multiple partners.
I am jealous.
If anyone has any other little factoids or discussion points surrounding this topic I'd love to hear back from you, as I've mentioned I find the whole thing endlessly fascinating!
(also I don't mean to offend anyone as I've mentioned the above are simply theories, not my own but I do think they make a lot of inherent sense!) " |
