Completely depends on the content, quality of image, composition, lighting, subject.......just like any colour image. Black and white can hide a lot of imperfections but it's not automatically going to be a better photo.

But a good black and white shot can be fantastic.

But a good black and white shot can be fantastic.

About sums it up for me - black and white can add an element of clumsiness to a pic - but the pic needs to be a decent one in the first place

Depends what you want from the picture! If you’re muscle definition black and white can work well! If you want to show the detail of underwear colour maybe better! Just depends what you want people to notice more!

They help focus on detail of the body/expression of the face rather than distracting colours.

They can be more "forgiving" too.

I wouldnt say they are necessary always sexier.

B&W photos are less distracting. They allow to focus on the subject, the texture. Colour is another layer (or medium) in photography. If it's not used in conscious way it might be distracting... but there is no right and wrong.
