Just my opinion, but if it's for a man - fillet is too delicate. Personally, I'd prefer rib-eye. And I'd lose the fried egg - runny yolk and peppercorn sauce doesn't sound appealing. Otherwise, all good

Sirloin is better than Fillet. Fillet is posh and tasteless, sirloin is meaty and yum.

Hot skillet, room temperature steak, oil (not olive oil, it burns) and season, fry for 2 minutes each side. Let it rest before cutting!

Goes great with mushrooms, cook them down in a separate pan and then crisp them up in the skillet while the steak is resting.

Peppercorn sauce is the tomato ketchup of steak dishes.

If you are going for sirloin, cook it medium, the better quality of steak the less cooking time it needs

If you use a rump then batter it with a rolling pin before you cook it to tenderise it, and it can be quite tough if cooked on too high a heat.

Don't put the oil in the pan, baste the meat with it beforehand. When you lay the steak in the pan lay it away from you so it doesn't spit back.

Make your own pepper sauce, just a normal bechamel base, add an oxo then shit loads of pepper, proper kernals in a grinder, a little salt.

And for extra wow make your own beer battered onion rings

I wasn't really arguing, of course firefighting is physically demanding but I would imagine the work is short bursts of energy and strength. I think the meal in the OP is to woo him, not set him up for work.

My favourite cut is ribeye the marbelling in the meat keeps it most.

Griddle pan wise choice, oil the meat not the pan, let the stake come to room temp before cooking “ never straight from the fridge “ and let the steak rest for around 5 Minutes covered loosely with foil after cooking.

Butter is excellent with steak, and if I have a big one I like to sear it then put it in the oven with some butter to baste with.

The high heat I use for the searing just burns the butter though, so I'll always use oil for that part.

Have you thought about trying ghee to sear it? All the flavour of butter, but a much higher cooking temperature.

"The high heat I use for the searing just burns the butter though, so I'll always use oil for that part.

Have you thought about trying ghee to sear it? All the flavour of butter, but a much higher cooking temperature."

I don't tend to experiment because the meat is pricey but this is a good idea and I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Definitely go do fillet steak.

I wouldn’t worry about peppercorn sauce.

Steak done correctly medium rare will be full of delicious flavours, a bit of salt to bring those out should be enough.

Serve it in sexy underwear ( you not the steak) . it will be perfect

It's been a very long time since I cooked dinner to impress a man.

I'd rather like to.

I'd also like to cook him fresh pancakes for breakfast whilst wearing on his shirt.

My fantasies are so very particular.

However I'm sure he will enjoy anything you cook, but it might be irrelevant if you're wearing the thong. Keep that hidden for after.

Well I am a professional cleaner having worked in the crime and trauma scene cleaning industry as a biohazardous waste engineer. If you ever killed someone in a bloody and brutal fashion in your property, no one would find a trace after I’d cleaned it. *Disposal of said body is not in my remit though, don’t have access to the incinerator anymore*

That’s very impressive, but I’m still not sure if you’d be up to the task, we are talking bachelor pad here, it can get pretty grim when I’m working long hours. There have been known to be a few bio-hazards lurking, but if you like a challenge fair play to you.

Might be pricy.

If you cook it right, you don't need a knife to cut it.

Drooling now"

Most expensive cut is tenderloin. Steak mignon

Lifes departure lounge NN9 Northamptonshire East not West MidlandsMidlands

On the subject of steak, we have just been planning our end of lockdown barbecue, This will centre round a whole fillet (Chateaubriand) wrapped in foil and cooked on a Webber charcoal barbecue. Expensive I know, but as I am not spending £50 a week on diesel that will not be a problem.

Top tip: oil the steak, not the pan. A very small amount of oil (rapeseed is good) rubbed into a room-temperature steak, seasoned with salt and pepper will seal in the juices and keep it tender & tasty. Get the dry pan super-hot and drop it in to sear on each side.

Mine is the old school one. It’s basically a saucepan with no handle full of crisp and dry oil with a metal sieve in it! I don’t have a fryer. Scampi will be some in there too and the onion rings!

Flash fry the steaks both sides in the griddle pan to seal then pop the hole pan if you can into the oven.

Depending on size of stakes how you like them finished 180 fan pre heated oven 5-8 minutes. Then leaves to rest for around 5 minutes.

And always cut across the grain.

I like a good rib eye but I find it hard to find a good one. Usually it's too fatty and sinewy.

Peppercorn sauce is the tomato ketchup of steak dishes.
