Yes I believe in them although I don't have an explanation for the phenomenon. The best place to see one is anywhere really. I've seen one at work, in the High street in a holiday cottage and other random places.

The human invented concept that after a human brain is dead and rotted something of that brain exists and can still influence atoms and light that the living see and experience ?

I have no belief in that at all

I do know the human brain is creating it's own picture of reality almost 70% of the time

I have zero doubt people see and hear stuff they cannot explain simply

My mother in law saw one late at night as she was driving. She still gets very serious when we talk to her about it, said it scared her to death and she wouldn't go out at night for ages

On a lighter note, my uncle once told me when we were kids he saw a pair of wellingtons walking across a opd barn roof near us one evening. I was only about 7 or 8 at the time, but I was shit scared of that barn for years lol - prob till I was about 21 lol

Whilst I get the point your trying to make there are multiple fact based evidences for the very real existence of flour ... there is absolutely none for ghosts. Anyone could get flour under normal testable situations.

The vicarage is surrounded by graves (after all its a vicarage) and has its fair share noises most nights. I don't believe in ghosts generally but I have a very large bedroom and there are times when I am laid in bed and hear noises from the other side of the room. At first I used to sit up and stare into the darkness but now, my reaction is to not look and give it the satisfaction.

With such a widely reported phenomenon, you'd probably expect the scientific literature to contain lots of evidence. Ive not seen enough of it to think that there's anything that supports the reality of ghosts.

The human mind only ever gets a perception of reality outside of us. We create everything that we perceive, as our basic sensual perceptions upwards to our more complex understandings of things. We are always constrained by our senses and perceptual limitations and our cognitive abilities are founded on biases, before we even have amassed experiences and influences of life outside of us.

On the basis just of our sensory perception, bias and experiential limitations, there's probably enough scope to land the concept of ghosts inside of the perceiver.

And that's notwithstanding that if we consider a ghost to be a real person that can think and has the sensory abilities of a living person, although now dead, we'd be ignoring what makes a human have these abilities - our brain. Our brains are complex, creating our perceptions of who we are, what we're thinking, believing and experiencing etc - those brain processes are constantly active and evolving our physical neurology. Our emotions are a byproduct of these proceses, from the neurotransmitters within our physiology. A few minutes after death this organ is incapable of vontinuing all of those things that supported the reality of who we were.

The thought that such enormous personal complexity, itself derived from tissues and chemicals of phenomenonal micro-complexity, could be established without what has evolved to produce it, seems potentially remarkably unlikely imo.

I don't believe in them but did see a glass fly off the top of the fireplace in The Golden Fleece pub in York once, it's known as the most haunted pub in York so whether it was set up or not to play it up to tourists I don't know.

When i worked for Greene King there was a Hotel where even mangagers that stayed there over night for meetings and training ect wouldnt stay in. I was supposed to go but left the Hotel division. Can't remember its name now

actually a hotel with function rooms and yes its working . Personally i dont believe in it all but few of the staff in there had some good stories to tell and yea you can stay in its most haunted room if you pre book it

I haven't been clear have I

. I say ghosts when I mean unexplained phenomena. I hesitate to dismiss people's experiences and I know that spiritual experiences are very real and possible. I just don't know their origin but suspect its internal rather than external.

Despite my confidence that people experiences have zero to do with a dead human I am absolutely certain that most have 100 % experienced something close to their claim even if that experience is an optical or aural illusion or misappropriation

Sadly there are some blatant liars. mediums and psychics do not help

Other than psychics and mediums I would not say to someone they are not telling the truth however there is a world apart from them telling the truth and then gap filling suggesting what they absolutely saw could only be the result of a dead human brain manipulation of light and matter

Psychics and mediums I call them bare faced liars and con artists on here to their face even if their kick is attention and not money they should not manipulate another human even IF THEY DO THINK they are doing good

My ex used to run ghost hunts at the palace theater .. or dance academy plymouth. His nights were always full. Once a month 6 people. Things always happened but its an old and falling apart building.

Although as a younger man I held onto the beliefs that there maybe "spirits" out there I'm becoming more and more sceptical in my older years.

I thought one day, if ghosts do exist what qualities one to become one? Maybe a life cut short? Maybe a life taken and revenge sought?

I came to the conclusion that there have been so many deaths throughout human history that for just one or two to be granted the right to haunt the living there must be hundreds of millions of really pissed off dead people that have not become ghosts.

Take the nazi Death camps for example.

Although a presence can be felt, those would be a prime location to seek scientific evidence. Or maybe some of the Cathar fortresses where, legend has it, the birds don't sing anymore because of the slaughter of their residents.

My sister often visits me in my dreams, even twenty years after her death, but she is not a ghost. If she did manifest herself in my presence I'd probably die of fright to and there'd be another ghost bouncing around in cyberspace.

It's a no from me but as a side note please don't underestimate your own brain. It will trick you into thinking all sorts.

I went on an enjoyable ghost hunt a few years ago for a birthday present. There were a couple of experiences that evening with readings on equipment and suchlike. Not enough to prove or disprove really but it was an interesting night at an old pithead and now mining museum. There were family connections there in that my great grandad was killed in a pit disaster in the 1930s. A fascinating place.
