Boring people get bored.

However scared people get frightened and sometimes that means they don't get busy.

I take it you dont live in a small 1 bed apartment with minimal possessions and no garden space because under normal circumstances you would be out and about enjoying the finer things that nature and the world provides? For some this lockdown is difficult because it's a complete change to how they live and aren't set up to spend this much time inside therefore creating boredom and depression, I suggest you take a minute to consider that not everyone has indoor hobbies and interests.

Why does their boredom irritate you?

This has changed a lot of people's lives very drastically.

They're allowed to be bored. Whether you are, or not.

Then they should get some. They could do a bloody good walk each day and then a shop later on in the night.

Phone people. Fix things. Read. Do crosswords. Floor n small space exercise. Watch telly. Keep a diary. Read a story. Write a letter ( a real one ) to friends and family and post them. Pick some s/flowers on their walk and press them. Put them in a scrap book for Covid memories. Research past flu endemics/pandemics in a quest for actual knowlege rather than fuckbuddiesville jabber jabber..... Ask the neighbours do they need sommat from the shops. Invent a board game. Have a wank. Change your sheets. Play countdown ...... Create some cheap and nutritious meals and freeze them ....

Stop staring at the wall and wondering who is going to do stuff for you xx

I have had SO many guys messaging me saying they are bored

Its been less than a month ffs!!

WW2 lasted five years! We have no clue what REAL hardship is!

I usually tell them to go ask their local cemetry if they need any graves digging. Might focus their bored minds a little.

I'm yet to be bored as still working from home and have two children to keep me busy. I do get a bit jealous of those who say they are bored but I appreciate having those I love most around me and things be keep my mind busy. We just all need to remember that everyone's situation is different and it is hard for everyone in one way or another. Let's not judge x

They are all great suggestions for killing time but they dont necessarily cure boredom, to cure boredom you need actually enjoy and be interested in the activities that you're doing, for the record I'm not bored I can quite happily sit for hours and just listen to music.

I think that many people are simply not used to their own company.

If you enjoy reading, have a hobby you can do at home, have space to exercise and do so, or enjoy learning new things, then you are less likely to be bored.

Those who are less interested in these activities and have limited space, are going to find the situation much more difficult.

I'm not bored, I pretty much live like we're doing now anyway, I have found that I'm getting more fed up with not being allowed to go out whenever I want as opposed to choosing not to, but I'm still working so I'm one of the lucky ones that isnt really on lockdown as such, it's more of a part time lockdown.

I'm fine, I'm more than content in my own company and space, I did struggle a little yesterday but that was a mood drop from seeing my kids the day before (obiding by the rules set out by the government I might add before anyone tries to judge me) going to go for a long walk today (not something I would normally do, well not locally anyway) I do think a lot feel bored at the moment but they are maybe confusing boredom with the feeling of isolation we are social creatures after all, it will take time for people to adjust to the lifestyle that we have found ourselves living, I just think everyone needs to be a little bit more tolerant to others because everyone will be coping or not coping with the situation differently.

Boredom is likely a reflection of an inability to cope with the current situation.

North West

I'm not bored, but definitely fed up of being at home. I work FT from home Mon-Fri and am here with S doing the same, plus our teen son and small daughter.

Our house is the least well adapted place for my disability but it's never really been an issue before because I don't spend a vast amount of time here. Normally I'm out at work, at the gym, playing wheelchair basketball and frankly am only home before work in the morning and after about 7pm at night. At weekends we go out as a family or I have basketball matches etc. I can't use my wheelchair in the house because the doorways are too narrow and we have stairs. The workstation I suddenly was thrust into using full-time is totally inappropriate for me long term and is causing me significant pain each and every day, but I'm still working. The least painful way to work is from my wheelchair in the garden, but that relies on the good weather and I can't teach live lessons or take conference calls when next door are mowing the lawn, for example.

Before you criticise people for not wanting to be at home 24/7, just remember home might not be appropriate or comfortable for some, for a whole host of reasons.

I'll reiterate - not bored but absolutely sick to the back teeth of being at home and anyone who wants to criticise me for feeling like that can hobble a mile in my shoes.

I have friends in 1 bed apartments with one window , no air con and it’s a constant 34.degrees. Some of them have small kids and are running out of food, water and meds. They have no running water, no grid electric and no diesel left for generators. I think we’re pretty lucky in the UK that boredom is our biggest concern.

I feel theres a lot of unseen pressures on all people.

It goes without saying that our wonderful NHS are the ones taking the brunt of this, supported by so many willing workers and volunteers and any complaints pale into insignificance compared to their plight.

But many folk are left feeling helpless and trying to cope with finance, worry for relatives and what might be a minor issue for me, may be a big issue for them and vice versa?

We should focus on ourselves and we can do, and avoid the irritation and finger pointing? That's the stance I'm trying to take, and whilst I'm lucky in the sense I still have to go to work, I do empathize with those stuck at home, even if its blatantly obvious why they have to be there.
