"So is anyone getting vaguely excited yet?"

I was about an hour ago when them Greekish girls were dancing again... and one of them hadn't had a shave today cos she had stubble under her arms! Damn near cum on the spot!

They shouldn't have put them guys in the same dresses though cos not having any tits it didn't do them any favours.

"So is anyone getting vaguely excited yet?"

nope. sick of it already. 70 people from my company are torch bearers and we are having daily updates about it. now i find that my road is closed on Monday morning as it goes through, so i will leave for work 2 hours early or 2 hours late..... all this for someone hobbling along with an oversized Zippo

Have you not seen the footage of police training for just such a threat? Weeks of running practice with their protective moves honed... with small crowds of volunteers asked to try and get to the flame.

Like the government advert on the radio telling all Londoner's to bike/walk/crawl/teleport..do anything to get to work but don't clog up the roads with your congestion charged, road taxed cars, or public transport with your taxpaying body !!

Then to prove they are doing their bit they will get all civil servants to work from home for 7 weeks !!

You could'nt make it up !!!

It smacks of Brazil rounding up it's undesirables and locking them away whenever something important is happening in the country.

Not just civil servants, they have been asking local businesses if staff coming in is vital. The shop keepers seem to think so. As it is, they will have to receive deliveries in the middle of the night. Now Royal Mail will be adding a surcharge of £1 for all packages delivered in Olympic areas during the Games period. On the plus side, they are ready to roll with next day specially printed stamps if we win any medals.

I have no idea where this oversized ciggy lighter is going and I won't lose any sleep! Already with all the adverts on tele being linked to the o'limpdicks! After one ad break where P&G had every slot and it was all sport based, I have decided we will TiVo everything and watch it later, that way I don't have to see the adverts at all!

The games have cost a fortune that we don't have and it may bring in money, but not to us who have paid for it! It has built stadia in a deprived area of London and the legacy will be massive upkeep bills for something that we don't need and I certainly didn't want!

Apart from that, it's exciting!

Who'd blame them, £200 for a torch is a bit steep when B&Q do a nice little pocket one for a fiver!

Still, £200 outlay for £1k return isn't bad as that's how much some of them have sold for from past Olympics.

the cycling squad get a fortune in subsidies. Comparing them to another sport without comparing the amount of subsidies received is not in any way relavent, and seems to depend on an assumption (on your part) that I give a shit about soccer. Which I don't.

Yes, I had worked out that that is what you would say.

I would say that supporting grassroots sport is more important than throwing money at elite squads and their facilities. It's an issue that impacts all sports, but cycling is a classic example where spending at the top isn't refelcted in a growth in competitive sport at the grassroots - arguably rowing is another example. Do we need an elite squad or a new community velodrome every year?

lol,i just knew you would come back with something like that!,

the lottery funding for cycling is very well spent indeed at grassroots level thank you! .

when the lottery fundings were made after the poor showing at the 1996 olympics by team gb as a whole, the athletics programme was very well paid indeed from the funding but cycling was the poor neighbour!,at the next 2 olympic games nothing was forthcoming from the athletics track, whereas cycling had spent very wisely and whilst the highly funded athletics stars were strutting around the village for everyone to look at them, the cyclists were busy winning gold medals!,this resulted in more funding coming cyclings way as more podium finishes at commonwealth & olympic games meant a better investment in the sport!.

the develpoment squad are pushing the medal winners from previous olympics all the way as has been show from the last two olympics were the bulk of medals won by team gb were from the cyclists!.

the elite track & road riders are now fully sponsored by sky who have a team in the tour de france to show the depth of talent in british cycling, lottery money does indeed go to grass roots cycling where hand in hand with sky, british cycling has its introduction to new riders throughout the country known as 'go ride' to encourage teens and younger to exercise and try cycling as a sport and it has the nationwide sky rides too!.

yes grass roots cycling is doing very wel indeed thank you!.

the lottery funding for cycling is very well spent indeed at grassroots level thank you! .

when the lottery fundings were made after the poor showing at the 1996 olympics by team gb as a whole, the athletics programme was very well paid indeed from the funding but cycling was the poor neighbour!,at the next 2 olympic games nothing was forthcoming from the athletics track, whereas cycling had spent very wisely and whilst the highly funded athletics stars were strutting around the village for everyone to look at them, the cyclists were busy winning gold medals!,this resulted in more funding coming cyclings way as more podium finishes at commonwealth & olympic games meant a better investment in the sport!.

the develpoment squad are pushing the medal winners from previous olympics all the way as has been show from the last two olympics were the bulk of medals won by team gb were from the cyclists!.

the elite track & road riders are now fully sponsored by sky who have a team in the tour de france to show the depth of talent in british cycling, lottery money does indeed go to grass roots cycling where hand in hand with sky, british cycling has its introduction to new riders throughout the country known as 'go ride' to encourage teens and younger to exercise and try cycling as a sport and it has the nationwide sky rides too!.

yes grass roots cycling is doing very wel indeed thank you!. "

Sorry, but that's a sack of shit and you know it.

There is a pool of elite talent but it's not as deep as people like to pretend - often created by competing with other sports for competitors with the right factor endowment.

Go Ride is not a new initiative, but a cannibalization of existing participants and clubs dressed up as a new initiative. Many Go-ride events aren't even competitive - it's an attempt to badge existing leisure cycling as evidence for British Cycling's next grant application.

Sorry, but the Sky deal is evidence only for the cynicism of Sky's management, putting their money and their logo onto a squad built by lottery funding. An assessment of the value added by Brailsford's squad and the massive investment in them might conclude that, since we were also getting top class riders before the massive investment (Boardman, Obree and co, all the way back to SImpson and beyond) the value added is less apparent than the PR machine would have you believe.

The loss of so many grass roots events and venues since 1945 has not been rectified - the elite squad has been built entirely round Manchester, with not enough investment in new venues elsewhere for grass roots competition.

If I sound harsh, I apologise, but the constant harping on from the British Cycling publicity machine sounds pretty hollow for those of us who are miles from any worthwhile facility where kids can become competitive racers in safety.
