My fringe has gotten a silly length and it needs trimming down- I was also due a trim to get rid of my split ends a couple of weeks ago as my curls are getting to be on the frizzy side!

I’ve been looking at YouTube and Instagram videos of people cutting their own hair and I reckon a few glasses of wine for courage and I could give it a go.

Has anyone attempted it? Is it as easy as it looks or am I completely deluded and best of leaving it?

I did it. I have short hair. I recommend no wine though!

If you are going to attempt it make sure you have very sharp scissors, and I would suggest sober unless you can cut in a straight line when tipsy.

Maybe best leave it. Good lucknif you try it.

Cutting curly hair is easy in one way as you can’t really see any mistakes but you need to be careful not to cut to much because when you’ve pulled it down to cut it sometimes it can spring back up too far if you’ve cut too much lol !

I would say, follow the line of your previous cut (fringe) and don't take too much at a time (length). Go for it. x

I’ll take that on board but I only think ‘yeah I can do this’ after a few quarentinis

Depending on how long this things goes on for I may be cutting my own fringe (the rest can wait)

I would say with a fringe you hair needs to be dry, try not to smile of frown when cutting as you will not get an even line or may cut it too short. X

Tempted to say your fringe probably looks great as it is.

It’s maybe more of an issue for those of us with short hair.

On a mooch

Cut it dry, little at a time ie don’t go straight in for where you think you want it, as when you let go it will bounce up

I won’t be doing my own but tasking my son to trim all my hair when I tip my head upside down what could go wrong

please keep us updated on how it goes!

I’m not sure if I wanna cut it to get it out my eyes, or just grow it out and have a change. It’s just at the horrible in between length where I’m getting frustrated with it

Firstly - welcome back Jamie.

.

I wish I'd had mine cut before the lockdown, but my hair won't grow much longer than 4 or 5 inches and is quite thick.

I'll look like something from the 'Hair Bear Bunch' soon.

Thank you!

My split ends I can cop with. It is what it is. My fringe is just irritating

I’ve done my fringe a few times when I had one and it went fine. And I did it with huge kitchen scissors.

Talk me through it! I’ve been told to cut straight, I’ve been told to cut upwards, I’ve been told not not cut upwards. It’s all too much My forehead is too big to not have a fringe, I was toying with growing it out but my fivehead said no

I’ve got a wonky face so I think it’s ok if I cut wonky as long is it’s the same direction of wonk as my face.

I’m gonna do it.

Until recently, I had always cut and coloured my own hair... Apart from when I first left school and I was a trainee hairdresser for just over a year... I haven't trusted hairdressers since

Chams or Socials

I do my fringe as a very last resort. I use cold hair straighteners to pull the hair down (longer than required) and snip across the bottom in straight line

It's easy i cut in a fringe about 3 weeks ago, its fine.

Regularly cut hubbies hair as well..no problem. If you cut off a little bit and see how that goes until you get to the actual length that you want.

I have cut my own hair in the past (but I'm qualified as a hairdresser). Since I don't have a fringe and I only get a teeny trim once a year, I won't need to do it during the lockdown.

If you need any tips I'm happy to help.

I find my hand steadier if I’ve had a couple of bottles of wine as I’m too nervous otherwise.

I’d recommend this.
