Hi all,

Just curious if others have received an email (to spam) claiming to know your password and threatening to send videos to contacts unless they are paid $2,000.

I've no reason to be worried, and I have no intention to pay, but is this a common thing. The password they referred to is an old one but which I used only for this site...

Stay safe x

Yeah I’ve had it. Freaked me out at first as password was correct. Nothing happened though. Was last year sometime

Yea seen it before. The $2000 is a bit of a giveaway.

Delete it. Don't engage.

They've sent it to be several times.

Its because you're surfing porn.

Ignore and move on

They said they would send it to all my friends.

I told them go ahead. If you find some who will give a shit crack on.

They should have paid me the $2k for wasting my time.

Something came up on my phone once implying that I watched something I shouldn't of on the Internet and they were claiming to be police.

Had all my telephone numbers in my phone book and they were asking for £500 or they would tell people that I'd been watching underage porn.

My phone even locked and I couldn't use it unless I paid them.

I did some research and found that a lot of people at the time all recieved the same thing. Some even paid and then they were asked for another £2000.

I knew it was all bullshit because I know I have never watched any thing like that but it did seem very genuine at the time.

Review the UK police Action Fraud service. They cover the new and common fraud scams, provide clear advice guides, can speak with you about the issues and also you can report fraudsters on their site.

If we all do this, it helps them to see trends, prevent more abuse etc.

It's always better to not engage with them as you have confirmed that your email is active and potentially for it to be used more in future

Dubai & Nottingham

People just buy lists of email /password combinations on the dark web and send these out in mass, it’s not personal. By the time the list is disclosed the site that is hacked has normally took action

You can check on “Have I Been Pwned” to see where you’ve been hacked and if your passwords are out there
