Anyone up for this ?

#1 - one minute a day , anyone can join in this and build a string core within a few weeks that will prevent all kinds of issues in older age. Ideal time to start

#2 - for the nutters. Let’s increase it 30 seconds each day , see who is the last man or woman standing , or rather planking.

Great suggestion on both counts

I would however suggest the incriminate be 10 seconds daily to give a couple of weeks or more and a productive progressive overload x

Agreed, let’s go for 10 second increments for #2

For anyone wanting to do #1 whose not used to planking just start with 15 or 30 seconds, or whatever you can do, you will hurt a bit at first but build up to a minute within 2 -3 weeks. Main thing is daily discipline get that core nice and strong - makes for great sex too

Indeed

Lie on your back perfectly flat and straight

Place arms forward into the air

It's exactly this but facing the ground not letting the hips fall or rise is straight like a plank

Or pictures worth a million words

Google plank

Personally I will be doing a straight arm plank some may go onto elbows

Yes you definitely need to be careful and check that one but if done right you shouldn’t feel it in your back at all as you use you core to support your back. For people who suffer with spinal disc bulges , degeneration and sciatica stemming from lower back problems, a strong core is essential to prevent further episodes.

Today’s 70secs done, a little wobbly by the end , think my core actually had a pretty heavy workout last night

I think low is harder? To make it harder / more interesting how about

- start high, down to one elbow, down to second elbow then up to one hand, second hand

- also one arm plank.. Then..one leg lifted high, or across body

I’m just doing normal elbow planks for this so far. Feel free to mix it up though 30 secs normal , roll over to side planks, Spider-Man’s - alternating arms and legs, it all engages different parts of your core and makes it interesting when you get above a couple of minutes.

You only fail if you stop

Try doing 45 seconds adding one each day

Never stop re adjust

It's just a yoga move

It really SHOULD NOT be competitive

It's not about competition its simply about doing

The irony is it really is just about doing

20 secs a day is 20 secs a day better than non per day however some humans want or need the competition element to help in the daily doing commitment

I cannot be emphatic enough or repeat enough

You only fail ONLY fail if you do not (not even cannot as long as you try) one only fails if one does not try to do one second each day

Ignore the morons who plank for what seems a life time

So in summary

Plank for whatever you can

If you want to add a second a week

You may improve for a year you may not

What's the rush

"Anyone up for this ?

#1 - one minute a day , anyone can join in this and build a string core within a few weeks that will prevent all kinds of issues in older age. Ideal time to start

#2 - for the nutters. Let’s increase it 30 seconds each day , see who is the last man or woman standing , or rather planking.

Great suggestion on both counts

I would however suggest the incriminate be 10 seconds daily to give a couple of weeks or more and a productive progressive overload x"

This...and I'm in

Sadly, not for me, as arthritis in wrists and elbows precludes me from doing this.

Good idea though!

Agreed, let’s go for 10 second increments for #2

For anyone wanting to do #1 whose not used to planking just start with 15 or 30 seconds, or whatever you can do, you will hurt a bit at first but build up to a minute within 2 -3 weeks. Main thing is daily discipline get that core nice and strong - makes for great sex too "

100% !! Fabulous thread. I have been doing them as part of my workouts for a very long time. For the advanced ones there are many different variations of planking to test your core strength.

Start slow and build up. Hopefully more Fabbers reading this thread will get involved and reap the benefits after lockdown... enjoy

60is second planks are part of my HIIT workout and I'm feeling stronger and more core-y already. I'll do a still, timed plank outside of that and report back x

Haven’t managed to get to a minute and a half yet. Helping my core as having to build it up for the pole again- arm injury put me out of practice. Killer at first though xx
