Mix it up ... make a super set

10 squats, 10 lunges (5 each leg), 10 push ups

5 times a day

You can’t ignore your upper body

That is right it is, 3 and 5 is good as well, instead of 150 aim for lets say 10 till the end of the challenge.

Shag I have zero upper body strength. I play rugby and lift weight 2/3 times a week but still a weakling. But I could break bones with my thighs.

Do it bit by bit. I can't do many pushups, my lower body is where it's at. But I'm building. If it's hard start with the modified ones (knees on the ground).

I normally daily lift and move 20kg sacks of feed on my shoulders, so I've replaced that with reps with a 10kg bag of dog food to keep me supple and fitness up

I was finding it difficult to keep to a routine at home. Instead I have a system where as I enter different rooms I do sets of push ups, squats, arm curls and the like. Kitchen is squats my bedroom is push ups, etc. If I'm watching TV I also try and fit in sets during ad breaks. Bottom line is just keep moving as much as you can.

We're talking about a few press ups at home mate, not running a marathon. If you wanted to make time for them you would. If you dont want to do them that's absolutely fine but your excuses are just that, excuses

I'm actually getting paid to do fitness at home to maintain readiness for the army reserve, so I'm smashing out weights sessions and 100 push ups a day, and using my hour of outdoor exercise to go on a 10 mile off road bike ride on the trails and quiet lanes just outside York or go running round the block

Yeah. I'm not posting my numbers, but I'm certainly nowhere near 150 a day. Not where my body is. My aims are "this sucks I want to stop" plus a bit. That number will increase if I stick with it.

"This is harder than it sounds! Day 1 resulted in DOMS so skipped 2 &3 l, back on it today , just done 75, 75 more to do this afternoon, "

Ha ha yes it is too many people underate the humble press up

Seriously

Press ups pull ups and lunges will usually make a person more sore than their gym equipment alternatives

I personally feel many avoid these NOT because they are too easy but the exact contrary

The 100 150 rep daily challenge is NOT for beginner or even the faint hearted

70 presses 70 tree pull ups . Lawn roller deadlift and 40kg concrete block shoulder press done x about to do 6 8 km walk and some sprints

Do lots of jumping lunges, air squats, military burpees (it just stansted burpees, mountain climbers.

Work for 40 seconds each exercise . Rest 20.

Next exercise

Repeat set 3 or 4 times.

I’m thinking of doing a murph every day for however long lockdown takes.

The CrossFit Murph workout itself consists of

- a one-mile run.

- 100 pull-ups.

- 200 push-ups.

- 300 squats.

- another one-mile run.

All done consecutively.

Mental!

Shag, I can only do about 70 press ups knees up, legs crossed.

Haven't been exercising for a while.

Is there any benefit in doing 70 press ups as mentioned in one go as opposed to in sets?

Imo where exercise is concerned the emphasis is wrongly placed upon extreme effort and not the consistency

Much better do 4 push ups 3 times a day every day and actually do it

Than intend to do 100 hard ones and do it once every 10 days

Goals are good but their true purpose are to encourage not discourage

An incentive not a nemesis

The thing to remember is that it isn't a competition. Do what you can do. Try to do a little more tomorrow. It doesn't matter if Shag can do 150 pushups, what matters is if you can do x, then next week you can do more than x.

Truth be told the lat activation/ development from narrow to wide is not worth noting

What I mean is there is no point doing an assisted wide

Better to do an assisted or be narrow

The wide is simply a leaver change thus if narrows become easy go wide

I’m going for a 100 burpee a day thing instead, on top of my usual HIIT workouts. Going ok!

I don’t think the burpees are challenging enough tbh, it’s basically falling over and getting back up again. Lots of times !
