This self isolation gave me time to think about some stuff deeply and I ended up thinking about how the swingers had fun before internet became commonplace

How did couples find other couples for swap? Were swingers clubs famous even then?

Swinging in the 1960s and early 1970s usually involved a house party where the men would throw their car keys into a bowl on the coffee table and the women would take a set at random and the action would start. Twice I had the misfortune of my ex wife picking my set of keys

Yellow Papers with the Adult Services columns usually at the very last inside pages.

Ads were hidden behind Box Numbers, to which you made contact via the paper.

The "Sport" newspaper had a contacts section.

Or back in the late 80's, I was introduced to the scene by a female I knew. Then, it was a case of knowing someone, who knew someone, who knew someone! It was very much "underground" then!

It was reckoned then to be easier to apply for MI5!

Years ago I can remember I saw adds in the old exchange and mart magazine.

I also saw some premium rate telephone numbers for adult chat and I ran my parents phone bill up.

Both the local paper and Trade it had personal or contact ads. I never used the local paper as I was afraid people I knew would find out.

Often found fun through the Trade it. There were never "meet now" meetings, usually it took over a week from first contact to actually meeting. But I don't ever remember no one turning up, probably too much effort had already been put in so you didn't want to waste it.

They didn’t! Everyone was totally monogamous and never indulged in anything like this. It’s all the internet’s fault!

In the late 90s I remember a selection of contact magazines on the top shelf in porn shops. I used to buy them and was fascinated by the little colour photo ads. They were very much like the profiles on here, but with much less text and only 1 photo. I never wrote to any. I was only 18. But I used to get off on the underground-ness of it all. The whole scene wasn't any near as accessible as it is today.

I also remember there being only a few adverts for any particular town. There weren't hundreds of couples like on Fab. There'd be a handful at best.

If it doesn't, you could write a letter to the paper asking what it means if you don't get a reply, and if you should write again (including a few more pictures of your genitals) just in case the couple didn't receive your first letter.
