Ultra Low Emissions Zones

Not a sex thing, but from April 2019 cars that don't meet the euro 6 standard will be taxed £12.50 daily for entering inner London. This will be expanded from October 2021 to effectively the greater London area.

Without going into whether it is a good or bad thing, I was wondering what people are doing about it?

Depends if you drive a petrol or diesel car and when it was manufactured...

Without doubt it will affect people inside it. Myself I would just not go there full stop.

If I need to buy something from there I would just go on the internet now.

Luckily I don’t know anyone there so again no need.

Just like my local town is talking about charging for parking on the high street I will stop going.

I usually go into Central London by public transport/uber anyway. Apparently you need a euro 6 car to avoid the ULEZ charge, which will be all/most cars built after 2016 or drive electric. Sadly the choice of electric cars is very small and very expensive. I'm gonna hold onto my old Jag for the time being

I’m glad I bought a petrol car, and it still passes

Either way, it’s super rare that I go to central London by car (and don’t really understand why anyone does it...) it’s so much more convenient using public transportation.

Most vans from before September 2015 FAIL

So we’re moving out of London soon and that’s the mayor who has lost 4 full time wages all being spent in the local economy

With the amount of pollution in London, I think that’s a sensible compromise for the city

There should be clean fuel so our cars don't chuck out pollution

I'm still not convinced cars is the main culprit.

Often crosses my mind all over the world 24 hours a day mobile phone calls are up in the satellites text messages

Wi fi electrtricy etc etc etc

Could this waves of current be causing climate change

I moved out ..Hertfordshire. .once you've experienced traffic free roads and countryside you'll never want to go back .

2021 falls 50m from my front door. Effectively im going to be charged 12.50 extra everyday to go to work... or buy a new car.

Its a tax on the working class, when they had the ULEZ consultation I showed how even as a relatively well earner to 'upgrade' or pay is impossble, they dont care.. its another stupid mayor trying to leavr his legacy of screwing the working class.

It was our good friend Boris who put forward London to meet the euro 6 standard. Sadiq has carried on his good work here!

As I am the main contact/carer for my mum I face paying £37.50 weekly to check on my mum, plus the extra 12.50 if I stay over at the weekend for a kink event.

Effectively I have to buy a new car to avoid being punished under the new laws and the extension of the zone in 2021.

Industry produces the bulk of the emissions and car drivers a negligible amount in the scheme of things. However car drivers are an easy target.

Glasgow/London

Having moved out of London several years ago, I find the air in London really polluted and brings on my allergic rhinitis. London is very car-congested, so if it helps get people buying less polluting cars, it can only be a good thing??

I'm tempted to buy electric, but the choices are limited, plus the ranges between charging are no good.

bexley

We live in Bexley and have done so for about three or four years. In the time we have lived here traffic and it's associated pollution has got worse.

We live on a main duel carriageway and have to clean the soot off of our front door each week, and that's going into our lungs!

We will move out when we can but one of us works locally and the other in the square mile.

I live just outside the congestion zone but regularly travel around it. I’m in the process of looking to sell my car and buying something more compliant.

I don’t think cars are the culprit and it’s just a money making scheme. They’re looking to extend this to those living within the A406 too so I’m going to have to get rid of mine sharpish.

But, how on earth am I going to get a money for a new one? The one I bought was on their advice that diesel is best!

Anybody looking to buy a 4x4?

I am in the same situation, my mother lives just within the A406.

I bought a diesel in the belief it was more environmentally friendly as that used to be the government advice. So I need to buy before April a car that is compliant. Where is the money to come from as there is no scrappage contribution ? Complete pain!

I'd better start saving now... ((

It’s just not realistic for us to go out and purchase new cars. Even those cars that are hybrid or electric used to have discounts on them. Now those discounts are no longer available.

Just coughing up money for no reason. On top of that, the new MOT rules are going to be difficult to comply with also.

So you think driving 10’000s out of business is a good idea while the main polluters black cabs and buses continue to pollute

????

I got a letter from DVLA saying my old diesel prob won't be compliant - starting to think about a new one cos it's only gonna keep going this way, regardless of who's mayor.

It's a pain for us who're caught in this shift but cutting toxic emissions has got to be a good thing overall.

Black cabs and buses in London now are pretty much all hybrids. I get alot of cabbies come into my work and they said they getting moved over to newer cars

I had the same letter, and have the same pain, but my understanding is that industry creates the greater part of the emissions and car drivers are not as they are an easy target.

I would say what is a Reason for a car to enter the Zone anyway as parking a rip off anyway. But it wrong that Vans and Trucks are and in my Case I work in Transport means Coaches can`t enter unless it a newer so means I am limited to who I can use and they can ask for a higher hire fee that will get passed on

How will the charge improve the climate .

Its the same as the congestion charge. ....it hasn't improved congestion or public transport

Can't really trust the government or class them as a friend

That's why people don't bother voting anymore. ..

The ULEZ is 100% down to the mayor, nothing to do with government

I agree 100% the bloke is a jackass

Blackhorse Road has bits of cycle lane all over the place NO ONE CYCLES THERE and the handful that do use the road, Lea bridge road has been bought to a standstill, they took away the bus lane to put a rarely used cycle lane so now more people drive cars cus buses are no quicker

Bloke needs shooting
