I was at Westfields today and there are quite a few bars on the outside part walking towards John Lewis so its just a question of finding a suitable one next time i visit there.

Since when is Erith and Sidcup considered east london?? Not that I am in anyway suggesting exclusion of course. It'll be a long trek for those from that area though unless its on the Essex border. I am having a demoralising time as a male newbie on Fab and was told that a social is a logical next step to try to solve that problem. I think, as is always the case, there will be a male heavy ratio. Still it is only a social so perhaps its not that important. We all gotta start somewhere.

To anybody who has attended a social of this nature before, what has been the composition of the attendees?

Unsurprisingly it looks like 90% single males are interested according to responses with the smaller number of the rest made up of a mixture, but I am guessing that if any females are in attendance then they will be generally aged 35+. I have only been to 1 social event before ever but the responses here and the initial potential interest kind of mirrors the exact scenario I experienced. At the social I attended I met about 10-15 guys maybe and just 3 women aged late 30s to 40s turned up; 1 made her excuses and left after just 1 quick drink. I emphasise the age element as it seems that swinging is very much a more mature lifestyle so naturally it is less likely to be attended by any young girls, though not impossible of course. The most pertinent point is that young girls have zero need to attend a social as they are already bombarded. That will also be the case with all women but more so for the younger females I bet.

All of these point are not an issue if people just want to socialise. Lots of people just want to chat with others who share the same attitude and want to share stories etc. But in terms of potential connections it looks like single males may find it to be wanting. I was told that meeting people in real life would yield better results than simply sending dozens or in my case, 100+ unanswered messages on Fab.

Without wanting to appear defeatist but rather realistic, is this just another dead end guys?

I get where you are coming from as use to do socials that were more like pre drinks before attending a club and the attendees were pretty balanced as it was upon invitation basis. Initially had a couple that were purely socials and the demographic you mentioned was more or less like that as it was an open invitation.

In the kink scene they have munches, which are socials and there's an under 35 and under 25 event, so most that attend are usually within that age range. Lots of single girls and guys, however because that scene is varied in interests and more "socially acceptable" mainstream it's understandable why.

I think that parties that do happen with a balanced list of attendees are a very much invite only situation, not one that has an open invitation to every Tom, Dick and Harry. Unfortunately that's the case when we're talking of sex and attraction.

So if it's to get a verification to show how genuine you are a social is fine.

To actually meet and get "action" a club night it definitely the way forward for single guys.

Insightful post Maebabe. And touches upon what was suspected. I think for kink it is based more on connection and trust so the meeting up is kinda vital. With sex/swinging, connection is a component but not always a prerequisite as some people are drawn mainly to appearances. As I always say, women needn't take an active role when on any dating or hook up site and are inundated regardless. Socials for them are kinda redundant in my view. I fear this social is dead before it even got going but it was worthwhile debating for a day. So...now what? Anyone wanna go to a club? This is my final avenue remaining before it is decided that I am doomed.

Who knows, you may be right. How I perceived myself may well be different to my own self-perception. I do cringe at how I may have acted at some points.

In my view I think that the only way a viable social is going to happen is if it is an organised social with a managed guest list. So that probably means there won't be one. Mistaress has been the only person who has offered to step up to the plate so far. Apart from loads of guys, there doesn't seem to be a strong appetite for it. But all gotta start somewhere I suppose.

"To anybody who has attended a social of this nature before, what has been the composition of the attendees?

Unsurprisingly it looks like 90% single males are interested according to responses with the smaller number of the rest made up of a mixture, but I am guessing that if any females are in attendance then they will be generally aged 35+. I have only been to 1 social event before ever but the responses here and the initial potential interest kind of mirrors the exact scenario I experienced. At the social I attended I met about 10-15 guys maybe and just 3 women aged late 30s to 40s turned up; 1 made her excuses and left after just 1 quick drink. I emphasise the age element as it seems that swinging is very much a more mature lifestyle so naturally it is less likely to be attended by any young girls, though not impossible of course. The most pertinent point is that young girls have zero need to attend a social as they are already bombarded. That will also be the case with all women but more so for the younger females I bet.

All of these point are not an issue if people just want to socialise. Lots of people just want to chat with others who share the same attitude and want to share stories etc. But in terms of potential connections it looks like single males may find it to be wanting. I was told that meeting people in real life would yield better results than simply sending dozens or in my case, 100+ unanswered messages on Fab.

Without wanting to appear defeatist but rather realistic, is this just another dead end guys?

I get where you are coming from as use to do socials that were more like pre drinks before attending a club and the attendees were pretty balanced as it was upon invitation basis. Initially had a couple that were purely socials and the demographic you mentioned was more or less like that as it was an open invitation.

In the kink scene they have munches, which are socials and there's an under 35 and under 25 event, so most that attend are usually within that age range. Lots of single girls and guys, however because that scene is varied in interests and more "socially acceptable" mainstream it's understandable why.

I think that parties that do happen with a balanced list of attendees are a very much invite only situation, not one that has an open invitation to every Tom, Dick and Harry. Unfortunately that's the case when we're talking of sex and attraction.

So if it's to get a verification to show how genuine you are a social is fine.

To actually meet and get "action" a club night it definitely the way forward for single guys. "

Why do some guys not get what a group social is? It baffles me when I’ve been to ones before and I’ve had verifications from that social and I get messages asking if there was any action there!! It was just a group social to drink and chat and make friends. Clubs are a different thing.

I wouldn't say that action is expected. But the probable occurence of meeting a group who you have no interest in other than to get a veri that says 'nice and polite' seems a bit futile. I know it is a negative attitude but I think it is up to each individual to weigh up the pros and cons of attending. You rewards you receive don't necessarily correspond with the graft you put in but for some it may seem worth it. Some will enjoy the event for simply what it is. For me if i want to go to the pub I'd go with my own mates. I think a woman's perspective on these types of situations will always be more positive compared to the average male's as a woman may turn up and be the centre of attention; whereas the guy could simply be making up the numbers.

Harold Wood, Romford here. Such a shame this doesn't seem to be going anywhere as there seems to be no events/socials this neck of the woods. Best of luck though and I hope the London/Essex scenes picks up a bit.
