Hi all.

Im off to london soon for a screening in soho.

I have never really stayed round that area so im asking here for a little advice on where to go/avoid in the evening regarding bars/restraunts.

no tricksters please.

Depends what you're looking for and where you're staying i.e. you looking for cheap and cheerful, or upmarket? Pub grub or haute cuisine? So many choices in London.

Might be worth checking Time Out which has fairly decent listings all categorised nicely.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

North, south, east, west or central London. It's big. It's a series of villages joined together and each has their own vibe.

Look up The Londonist for things to do.

It will be solely around soho.

I have read lots of reviews but wanted to hear from real folk so to speak.

upmarket or downmarket, i have no preference.

saftey and nice folk are all im fussed about.

Iceland, but Aldi is closer..

If yer in soho, just hang around that few hundred yards.

Ham yard and picadilli to the west, Oxford St to the north, China town to the south and Neils yard and covent Garden to the east..

You are pretty much slap bang in the middle with everywhere less than a ten minute stagger away.

Have fun and enjoy..

NW London

Around Soho. There are plenty of good pubs along Greek Street and Dean Street. Bar Italia on Greek Street is a very famous coffee shop.

The Toucan on Carlisle Street does a great Guinness and Bradleys Spanish bar on Hanway Street is something of an institution.

If you're into rock n metal try The Crobar on Mannette Street or The Ship on Wardour Street And there are some surviving record shops on Berwick Street.

Food wise Yalla Yalla in Greens Court (Lebanese) Cafe Bruno on Wardour Street (trad Brit cafe) Bodeans on D'Arblay Street (BBQ) Flat Iron on Beak Street (Steak n chips) or Bone Daddies on Peter Street (Japanese Ramen noodles).

I enjoy London apart from Oxford Street. Too busy for me as I don't do well in large crowds. I think my height means I can see everybody walking towards me and I get panicky, whereas if you are shorter you just have to get on with it.
