Stafford

Hey been offered a job in Slough and was hoping to get opinions on here off where is decent around Slough. As I've never been to the area what is it like? Is there alot of pubs or things to do? What are the prices of food etc as I know it's near London and that makes things more expensive.

Thanks, Tynx

Falkirk

Or UK offices are on Bath Road where a lot of large multinational companies have offices.

I'm lucky I'm rarely there but from what I've seen its a typical London suburb.

Its about 15 mins from Heathrow so if you travel a lot its handy.

I normally stay in Windsor which is just outside Slough. Its a nice place but expensive for a pint unless you find the Witherspoon's.

Don't know what the costs of living are but I would assume it would be higher as its commutible from London.

Slough

Come friendly bombs and fall on Slough!

It isn't fit for humans now,

There isn't grass to graze a cow.

Swarm over, Death!

Come, bombs and blow to smithereens

Those air -conditioned, bright canteens,

Tinned fruit, tinned meat, tinned milk, tinned beans,

Tinned minds, tinned breath.

Mess up the mess they call a town-

A house for ninety-seven down

And once a week a half a crown

For twenty years.

And get that man with double chin

Who'll always cheat and always win,

Who washes his repulsive skin

In women's tears:

And smash his desk of polished oak

And smash his hands so used to stroke

And stop his boring dirty joke

And make him yell.

But spare the bald young clerks who add

The profits of the stinking cad;

It's not their fault that they are mad,

They've tasted Hell.

It's not their fault they do not know

The birdsong from the radio,

It's not their fault they often go

To Maidenhead

And talk of sport and makes of cars

In various bogus-Tudor bars

And daren't look up and see the stars

But belch instead.

In labour-saving homes, with care

Their wives frizz out peroxide hair

And dry it in synthetic air

And paint their nails.

Come, friendly bombs and fall on Slough

To get it ready for the plough.

The cabbages are coming now;

The earth exhales.

David Brent's office was from Slough.

There's not much in Slough in my opinion, it is quite rundown. But as previous poster said, Windsor is not far, but more expensive.

Best thing about Slough is its transport links, it's easy to get to or from. Central slough is a dump, low end chains mainly and a giant Tescos by the station. Because it is part of the west London M4 corridor sprawl there are lots of facilities but most you travel to.

people who can afford to move out towards maidenhead or north towards the chalfonts or nicer parts of uxbridge. it is not on the tube network so its train or bus/tube in to London.

In other news the swinging scene in the area is quite good

Hull but travel regularly

Will be on the tube network with the new Elizabeth Line. But you'll need to wait until 2019

The one thing you can say about Slough is that head in any direction away from it and you'll find a nicer place to live. Communications are great as mentioned in previous posts but the centre of town is pretty skanky.

The Flags in Chalvey used to be a brilliant strip pub but has gone downhill in recent years.

Rent is about to go up with the Crossrail, so it may not be that much cheaper than west London

18 minutes to Paddington. 6 minutes to Windsor. 20 or so to Reading. There's really not much in Slough anymore as it's going through a regeneration scheme. It's so close to nice areas though that it's a decent place to stay.

If you're looking to rent, I can tell you where is okay and where isn't okay to live - there are some very high crime areas which are best avoided.

SL2 is large. If it's around Farnham Common/Royal, then that's lovely. If it's Wexham, it's a bit rough. If it's Britwell, I'd completely avoid it.

Slough

Mate, I wont beat around the bush, Slough is a shit hole. Pubs are crap, town is ugly and property is expensive. Avoid the Slough itself, some of the outlying areas are much nicer, but pricey
