From experience whichever mainstream hotel you do it in people will have to 'sneak' past the reception. Although this have never actually involved sneaking. Usually a smile and a casual "hi" as though you're staying there is fine.

Some clubs have hotel/bedrooms you can stay in but I'm not sure any of them are in London?

Bromley /occasionally BRIGHTON

Have you thought about renting a short stay property? That might be a good thing to try but there might be a few days minimum stay.

West Midlands

Pick a large hotel...with a large bar...meet in the bar...sus out your "guests"...tell them your room number and to follow in 1's and 2's 10 mins after you leave....simples.

What area in London? There are some mainstream hotels which are very nosey and some that are not. Sometimes depends on what area in my experience.

Some areas have local hotels which are quiet, cheap and very easy going. Been to quite a few in N. And NE. London.

It's not a cheap option but you could always hire this apartment?

Kew Bridge Travelodge. They also have some rooms tucked away in corners.
